Hi,

I'm 1 year post op (WOOHOO!) I feel GREAT.  Although right now I'm miserable ... bloated abdomen, gas, nauseous, hot & cold & dizzy.   I think I might have food poisoning.  No, it's not just gas. Gallbladder was removed,  so it's not that.  Has anyone else experienced food poisoning at any point after surgery?  If so, what do I do?

I hope you feel better. I haven't had food poisoning post-op but I remember having it in the past. Not fun! Just had to to ride it through. Drink as many fluids as you can.

Thank you Gina. I'm drinking warm water, and top Ramen broth.

Food poisoning usually causes either vomiting, diarrhea, or both. That doesn't sound like what you are describing. If this doesn't improve, and esp if you have any significant abdominal pain, get yourself to either your doc or the ER to make sure you don't have a bowel obstruction - which in someone with a DS or gastric bypass can occur without the usual symptoms.

Now that I think about it, it would probably be a good idea to contact your surgeon and see what he suggests, and how concerned he may be that this is something more serious than food poisoning.

Thank you Larra - I forgot to mention nothing is staying in me. I'm just sipping on warm water, and top Ramen broth. I took your advice, and called the surgeon's office this morning. They said  ... stay hydrated,  and call my primary physician if it doesn't improve in the next 24 hours.

I'm glad you called them. Just stay on top of this and get seen if you don't improve.

Thank you Larra. Calling the dr. eased my mind ... now to get everything else eased :) I found a "copycat" recipe for oriental Ramen broth. It'****ting the spot.

Food poisoning usually comes around 9 hrs after eating and ends as soon as the food is gone, usually by vomiting.  If what you're feeling doesn't match that, then it's probably an adverse reaction.  I've gotten that a few times from the weirdest things.  Take note of the last thing you ate, especially if it was recently before you started feeling that way, and eliminate that from options from now on

Thank you Valerie - That's interesting. I had 2 hot cocoa protein drinks that day, and eggs for both breakfast & lunch. I eat eggs all time ... but I'll cut them out, and see what happens.

By chance is the cocoa drink new?  I get horrible bloating and gas with whey protein.
