Remind me: B12 and gastrectomies - do we absorb the time released B12?

I only have the VSG but you guys are the Vitamin Kings so I figured best to ask here.  With the exception of the first 30days post-op, I have  NOT been on a PPI.

I've always taken high dose quick desolve tablets (yikes, thought these were lozenges) but first time I picked up time released tablets (BuyOne GetOne free plus coupons so I thought I'd give it a whirl).  Geez now I have to bite the bullet and get bloodwork - my b12 was low and now that I have just looked at the B12 bottle I have been taking for the last 2 yrs (I buy in bulk on sale) not taking a true lozenge may have done me a disservice.

So for gastrectomies, should we only take B!2 lozengers? Or am I ok with these time release and quick desolve tablets (been letting them melt under my tongue because I thought they were  lozenges )

Oy!

Thanks!!!

With just a sleeve your vitamins have plenty of time to digest naturally, so I wouldn't expect any problems with extended release vitamins.  It varies with the person, as most things do, but try different methods until you find what works.  PatchMD also has B patches if you want to bypass digestion altogether.

B-12 is a snapshot.  It is water soluble and varies from day to day and even hour to hour.  It's the RNY folks who usually have issues with B's.  Not usually the sleeve/DS people.  Take any kind of B-Complex you wish.  Read about this.  B-Complex beats any single B.
