I am 2 weeks 2 days out. I feel like everything is SO dry.....my hair, my skin, my eyes even. I wondered if it's just fall and turning on furnace .....but I've tried to increase my water. Still only getting in 50 oz consistently....64 on a good day. But I also - am SO tired. I am working my 10 hour shifts but then just want to go home and veg. I battle between constipation and diarreha....my stomach is gurgling and active always which is bothersome. What worries me is there seems to be a constant ....burning feeling....kind of the feeling you get before diarreha...but it's up high and centered ......is this normal?

WORRIES

Fatigue.......when does this get better?

Burning sensation..............is this normal?

Vitamins.........right now I only get in 1 multi, 2 calcium, 1 D3 50,000, 1 K2.......I think I'd upchuck to get anymore in.

Food......have moved to soft foods - sliced turkey, cheese stick, tuna w\ mayo....all staying down. Did try a fruit cup that stayed down but got the tummy REALLY active...?

I guess I just want to make sure I'm doing what I should. I have a call in to the doctor about the burning feeling........just seem to trust the opinion of those who have actually LIVED it! Thanks for any feedback......

Do you realize that your body is healing inside for another month?  You've gone back to work and you're not getting in your minimum fluid intake.  No wonder you're a mess!

First - your body needs 64oz daily, no ifs ands or buts.  Your body doesn't care how hard it is, and doesn't listen to excuses.  It will react no matter what, with nausea, constipation and fatigue.  Another thing the body does to some who don't hydrate enough is it gives them kidney stones.  I know it's hard, but it can be done, and it's a full-time job.

Next - if you MUST be working right now, pretend you're an invalid when you get home.  I couldn't even imagine going back to work 2, 3, 4, or 5 weeks out.  In fact, I was 8 weeks out before I returned to work.  I was extremely listless the first 6 weeks, taking a nap after an outing for groceries.  If you're going to work to keep the family afloat - they need to pick up the slack when you get home.

Constipation and even your dry skin can be remedied with fluids and fat.  You're not getting enough fluids for sure, and make sure you're eating enough fat.  Add things with sauces and gravy, or drizzle some butter on meat.  It's delicious.  Try avacado with some baby shrimp salad.  Eat more tuna salad, egg salad, chicken salad, ham salad, etc.  Ricotta cheese is my favorite soft food.  It has 7g of protein in just 1/4 cup.  Baked egg custard was a go-to food of mine early out, too.  Just swap out the sugar for another sweetner

I am 4 weeks out today.  I had ZERO energy until the middle of this week.  I went back to work this week (after 3 weeks off) and that worked for me (I do have a very sedentary job).  I am a few weeks ahead of you and I would never dream of having fruit.  My diet is pretty much as follows:

shake in the morning

string cheese stick at morning and afternoon break

something high in protein for dinner and lunch - tuna salad, soup made with black beans and chicken breast, baked fish

I was constipated for the first 2.5 weeks.  I started drinking a 24 oz glass of decaffeinated ice tea with 2 teaspoons of benefiber in it in addition to 3 stool softeners a day.  My bowl issues appear to be resolved.

The only gurgling I have is when I am hungry - yes I get hungry.  I am hungry for protein 2-3 hours after I eat - so I eat again.

My advise would be to stick to those soft proteins and get your water consumption up.  Rest when your body tells you to.

Good luck

you are 2 weeks PO and working 10 hr shifts?  your body is trying to recover from a major trauma, the DS.  I cant believe a dr released you to work 10 hrs after 2 weeks, you have to be very careful you could get into trouble here.  recovery from DS is variable but 2 weeks, then working 10 hour shifts, instead of a normal 4-6 weeks, recovery it may take you 10 weeks to see a decrease in fatigue or more due to your early return to work.   dont worry too much about vitamins now, first is drinking, sounds like you need to more of that.  Please take care of yourself, if you can take a couple more weeks of do that, if you cant then just work and leave other things to do when you can. hope you feel better
