Need some advice...Is this normal?

I had the DS on 10/3 by Dr. Daniel Cronk in Omaha, NE. So I am a couple days past a month Post-Op. It has been a hellish month. The first two weeks I lost 30 pounds. Woo! And then 10 lbs the next two weeks. I am very happy with my weight loss but honestly... I feel like crap ALL the time. I feel weak, and nauseous always! I can't seem to eat, I have no appetite. I think I'd lose more weight if I actually ate something (Does that make sense?) But honestly, I just can't seem to eat. Thinking about food, even now, makes me wanna gag, that's how bad it is. I most definitely do not come close to getting the required protein. I try drinking protein shakes, but no matter the brand or flavor, I can't get it down...Again the thought makes me sick. Right now, I know I am getting enough fluids though because all I want to do is eat ice. My work has an ice machine that makes the tiny soft ice like at Sonic and I can eat it all day. Anyway, day or night, I am sick to my stomach and have to force myself to eat and then it's barely anything. I can't stand feeling like this. At work (I am a housekeeper so it's not easy!) I feel lightheaded and weak, like I just want to collapse. I don't know what is going on. I called my DR and he wants labs done so I am doing that tomorrow but I hate this feeling. I want to feel normal. :( I feel like I am wasting away and have no energy. Is this normal?? Please say no! lol Cause I am going insane.....Thank you.

I think you are getting less water than you think. The symptoms you describe is exactly how I felt at 3 weeks. I went to the ER and got a bag of fluids and immediately started feeling better and was able to get my fluids in and start eating. I don't think you can really get the water you need from ice. Let us know what your doc says.

I am drinking more than just ice. I drank a 20 oz bottle of powerade zero before I even started on the ice. Not counting what I drink in the evenings and in the middle of the night.

it could also be acid reflux, even of you don't feel like you have"heartburn". Acid reflux can be a side effect of the sleeved stomach. Are you taping a PPI like Nexium? Acid reflux can cause wicked nausea.

I was prescribed protonix. Maybe I need something different?

it is possible you need some thing different,or a larger dose,or to take it at a different time. I would definately ask for a different one,not every drug works well for every patient.

Nausea all the time is not normal and I would also increase the amount of liquids you are getting or get fluids at the er.

I will ask my doctor for a different medicine because the nausea is horrible! I wasn't even this nauseous when I was pregnant! lol

You should have your iron levels checked as well. Eating ice is a big sign of anemia. I lived off of bags of soni**** for about a year...that and pistachio's when I was severely anemic. It's called PICA.  I didn't know I was anemic at the time though.

You also need to make sure you are not dehydrated. Dehydration can cause nausea and fatigue.

I am glad you called your doctor. The labs should tell the story.

I am hoping to get answers from the labs. They don't think I am dehydrated because I am peeing fine. They said if you go 8 hours without peeing, you're dehydrated but I peed 4 times in 9 hours a few days ago when they asked so she said it was not dehydration. I try to increase my fluids but it isn't easy. Like right now I am thirty as all get out, but if I drink, I won't eat and I never get any food in so I am just gonna wait it out. It's so frustrating!

drinking should not keep you from eating. You might *think* you can't eat but I bet you could. Liquids go straight thru our pyloric valve into the intestines. They don't hang around filling up our stomachs at all.

Feeling thirsty is one of the signs that our body needs liquid. Peeing amount certainly has something to do with it,but you could still be dehydrated.

how many 20 oz of Gatorade are you drinking. One 20 oz and an undetermined amount of ice is likely not going to add up to 64 oz which is a good minimum starting place. You might fill up a glass with soni**** and let it melt and measure it  and then you will know exactly how much liquid that glass full of soni**** is  measuring. You might be surprised.
