Let me explain something

I have told my story on here and I am an extreme example of what can happen with this surgery if you go into it blindly and uninformed. I just want people to realize this is probably the most extreme of weight loss surgeries. Does it work, YES and very well. You can eat almost anything you want but it doesn't stop with the surgery. It is a lifetime of keeping up on your labs, eating right, and listening to others who have had success in the long run. This surgery was the right one for me because I love to eat and I still can. I lost 150lbs and probably would have had a heart attack without it give my heart problems. The hardest part for me was to maintain myself when I got to my goal and the fact that I really wasn't informed of what was involved for the rest of your life. My doctor is very questionable to say the least. He told us all we needed was take a multi vitamin and check your labs once a year, I think it was 14 years ago and I am almost 65 so I have problems remembering why I got up and went to the other room. I am not dissing this surgery just realize you cannot let down your guard and this is a lifetime commitment which I let start for a second time but was smart enough to get on it early not as early as I should have but earlier then my first time around. This surgery lets you still enjoy food and lose weight its great that way just keep up on your labs and your supplements and vitamins.

Thought I would say this particular doctor is still practicing and from what I've heard has quit carrying malpractice insurance. He accepts no insurance cash in advance and I hear you have to sign a form saying more or less you will not sue for malpractice regardless of the results. There are a lot of better choices out there. When I had my Open Heart Surgery I left no stone unturned as to which surgeon to use. At the time Dr.Heap was the only game in town the only surgeon that did the DS in Washington state or anywhere close.

If I am remembering correctly Dr. Heap has a very bad reputation of not being completely forthcoming about what he is doing.  I think he does his own version he calls a mini DS?

Anyway, I would get my ass to a real DS surgeon and find out what the hell he did to you and get if fixed if need be.  The stories I've heard are not very pleasant.

Yep I got mine before he came up with the mini DS so I got a standard BPD-DS with Gall Bladder removal. Do all DSers have their gall bladder  removed. I know he said tha he does that with everyone.

Some docs remove the GB and others don't.  I'm thankful to have mine removed along with appendix too.

Dr. Heap doesn't have a good reputation at all in the DS community, but it sounds like you were one of the lucky ones.  There are very few surgeons or nutritionists that have a clue of what the DSers need long-term.  I feel bad for those who don't tap into groups like this and those on Facebook to learn from others' experience.

I did have my gallbladder removed with my first WLS.  I was told it was because of the rapid weight loss many people experience gallbladder attacks.

A lot of DS Doctors take the GB for that reason. There also seem to be a sizeable minority that don't
feel it is necessary. My surgeon left mine. He just feels it is unnecessary.

Yep Heap said you don't need it anyway and a lot of people have problems.
