Anyone have an open DS?
I am getting a VSG revision to DS. I am very nervous about the "open" part, because my VSG was laproscopic. I've had 2 c-sections, and I've had issues with adhesions. I am also getting re-sleeved. Therefore my surgeon feels open is best to really be able to clean out the scar tissue and best tackle the botched sleeve.
I am very concerned about the vertical incision. Listen, I am no bikini beach babe, I have TONS of old stretch marks on my stomach. But I'm still nervous for the vertical incision.
Can anyone tell me how their open scar healed? Dr. Lu has assured me that with plastics, it will disappear. But I always thought stretch marks and scars above the belly button weren't removed during a TT. I've searched and searched online, but can't seem to find any reassuring pics. THANK YOU!

I just recently had a revision from RNY to DS, and due to the number of previous abdominal surgeries I had to have it open as well. The scar is still healing, but fading as the months go by. I'm not too worried, as I'm not much of a two-piece kind of girl! It's not that bad, so if the doc feels it's best ... Go with it!! Best of luck to you!

Thank you for your input. I would have it open no matter the cosmetic outcome, if that's what is necessary for the best surgery. But I'm glad to hear it's not as mad as I'm envisioning!

My DS was open as well back in 2008, and the scar isn't that noticeable at all.

My DS was open 9 years ago. I get keloids, but like you, I had no unrealistic notions of having a bikini body either. My scar looked like a giant pink zipper going down my abdomen. I mused about getting a tattoo zipper-pull. It did go clear over the years, but it seemed to be forever.
What was cool, was after surgery, they glued the incision all the way down so I had no stiches or staples to deal with. It was all healed in about 2 weeks.

My scar is vertical, but it didn't make me any difference, since I had no plans to *ever* wear a two-piece bathing suit.
How it heals depends on your individual nutrition level at the time of the surgery. Many people start their vitamin regimens and protein shakes as pre-ops. the way you heal also has a lot to do with genetics.
I'm prone to hyperpigmentation and hypertrophic scarring, so my scars are often raised and dark, some almost to the point of being keloids.
Nevertheless, I felt open was better, since the surgeon has more room to move things around than a laparoscopic surgery.
I too had to be open because of adhesions. My scar was a very nice thin straight line barely noticable, not that I would have put it on diplay mind you. Had I not need plastics I would have been very happy with the results. I did need plastics and when I had them the skin was pulled down so that the scar was completely removed I only have a thin line from my belly button to the hip to hip line of my tummy tuck. It was all glued together so it really just looks like a line. My husband also an open DSer had to have the anchor tummy tuck because he had to have a hernia repair at the same time. His scar is just a line from just above his belly button down to his hip to hip. I slathered coco butter everyday because I heard it would make the scar less visable but hubby didnt and his is just as thin and pale as mine.
