and last time i went to the support group meeting ( a few months after the accident) all the surgeon saw was that i was still overweight and wanted to do a revision to make my intestines and stomach even smaller. and i knew that wasnt the answer. the meetings were over an hour away and they moved farther

So sorry about your accident!  I'm glad you remembered to come here!  I am guessing you are applying for Medicaid as well?  Are you getting some sort of therapy to help you deal with the memory loss/forgetfulness?

Are your prescriptions covered by insurance?  If they are have your PCP write prescriptions for every vitamin you need.  There are quite a few prescription versions of the vites we take.  Get a scrip for iron infusions if needed and the D shots too.  Do everything possible with prescription meds!  Ask your PCP to help you figure it out.

Also if there is a vitamin store someplace close to you talk to them about selling or giving you for cheap the stuff that is expiring.  Are you a member of a church?  Perhaps they have some connections that would help you out.  Sometimes the local food banks have vites too.

Meanwhile, if all you can afford is multivites, at least get the prenatal ones and take a double or triple dose every day.  Find something that will help you remember.  An alarm, a sign on the fridge, find something that works for you.  Maybe you could take the pills first thing in the morning and last thing at night?

Document your rashes/hernias/loose skin issues. Take pictures!  Go to the doc with your problems! Medicaid will cover surgery that is medically necessary and that would include fixing your hernias and loose skin that is causing the rashes, etc.  But you have to do the work to get the documentation done.  And what the doc told you about the pulling causing the hernia problem is great documentation for your loose skin removal!  Make sure it's written in your medical records.  Ask this doc for help.  Tell him/her you need an advocate.

All these issues with the DS is the 800lb elephant in the living room.  There is only one way to eat the elephant and that's one bite at a time.  One step at a time!  Do your best and keep asking for help.  You did the right thing!

i was on medicaid until the state switched me to horizon nj health. they have a list of perscription meds covered on their website. I was in therapy for a long time for the tbi. still in some. the accident was in 2011 coming up on 3 years out.

I will have to get the papers from the doctor who did the hernias. he was reccomended to me by a doctor but i think he messed up somewhere. i feel like there is little rocks under my skin in some spots and when i lay the wrong way it stabs me. when i told him and asked if he could fix the mesh he said " well i could take it out but you will have a hole there because its attached to the muscles already" havent been back to him since 2011

Kelly - It's hard to provide a lot of information without knowing more cir****tances of your situation and the extent of your injuries and what you have done to date to get more assistance.

My first question is do you have a Social Worker who can assist you in getting the help you need?  You can't do this by yourself.  Perhaps you could contact New Jersey Division of Disability TBI Division or Brain Injury Association of NJ to start with.  They might be able to assist you. Depending on the extent of your injuries, they should be able to put you in the right direction to get the assistance you need.  It seems you need an advocate to assist you.  You should be able to get the insurance you need and help with getting to the right doctors and help with your day-to-day needs.  Also, depending on the cir****tance of the accident, have you sought legal counsel to see if there are any benefits available to you?

Again, it's difficult to help without knowing more.  I hope you can get the help you need from the professionals available to you.

Well my bf and i were hit 5 times by a loaded oil truck going down the parkway. I have a lawyer for the accident and social security. both cases the other side is dragging it on. The state "lost" my paperwork for disability 3 times. even having them sign for them and hand delivered by my lawyers office. after almost 3 years i finally am on the last step of social security and am waiting for a court date.

in the meantime i have general assistance.

I have a case worker through horizon nj health. but its state insurance so not many doctors accept it and those who do are at their quota or aren't getting paid for their work. been to the BIANJ

If you have read my posts you know I know what you are saying. Praying you get some help soon, you  can get into some real problems without thesupplements, believe me I know and I am 14 years out. Are you on Medicare if not you should be able to get it 24 months after the accident and if you are low income Medicaid. And you should be eligible for SSI retroactive.

Sorry I should have read all the other posts first. It seems you are doing what you can. The government moves slow unless you owe them money.

state Yex-

I think all of us who have had the DS, or any other Bariatic surgery don't count on hard times making it more difficult.  I know I surely didn't .  Because my SMO was part of my disability, my state paid for my DS, and for skin reduction that was causing health problems (infections).

In retrospect, I think I was probably too much over the top in terms of optimism. Not about what the surgery was going to do for me physically, but that I would not be the one who would be blocked from achieving my goals after the surgeries.

I would suggest to you that perhaps having the intestinal switch reversed might be a plan, but keep the restriction, maybe even have it fine-tuned (tightened up) a little. Once the state approves assistance for you, I think that would be my next step.

Having everything taken down completely would put you right back where you started.

If that's what you really want, but I don't think you do. With just the restriction, your full absorption would be restored, and that would eliminate mega-doses of vitamins and make normie-type protein and vite supplementation healthier for you.

Probably would also mean the return of calorie counting and the ugly "D" word (diet), but health is the most important thing.
