I am more than six years post-op and have never dumped.

The only sweet I eat is solid chocolate, especially dark chocolate.  No problems.

Has not weighed myself since 1/2010.  Letting my clothes gauge my progress instead.

Thank you, Vicki! I am really happy to hear this - especially when it comes to chocolate! :)

First let me say that a LOT of people on WLS sites *think* dumping is something it's not. Dumping is a very specific insulin reaction to insufficiently digested carb****ting the small intestine. It CAN happen to ANYONE, even those who've never had any sort of surgery, BUT any sort of surgery on the digest tract can increase your chances of dumping.

Your highest chance of experiencing dumping, especially on a regular basis, comes from bypassing your pylorus, like with the RNY. Both the DS and the Sleeve preserve the pylorus and all normal stomach function.

For MOST DSers, the 'punishment' we receive for over-eating sweets/carbs is bad gas. For me personally, I get bad gas if I REALLY over-eat carbs (most especially if I eat lots of onions and sweet peppers!) OR if I eat sugar alcohols.I can eat ANYTHING "in moderation" and be just fine. Thanks to the Sleeved stomach of the DS, "in moderation" is pretty much how I eat everything.

I'm nearly 11 years post-op (coming on Dec. 11th!), and I *can* eat anything I choose. As mentioned above, sometimes onions and peppers lead to bad gas, but sometimes they're worth it. (*grin*)

I am pretty effortlessly maintaining a loss of 170 pounds. AND, this spring, I just spontaneously lost another ten pounds. I don't even own any scales, but I weighed at the doc's office today, and that ten pounds has been joined by one more. (*grin*)

Thank you, MsBatt! This is very helpful, especially "Both the DS and the Sleeve preserve the pylorus and all normal stomach function."  Congrats on your great loss, and yay for the one more that fell off the scale. :)
