Well, it's official ... I have an anal fistula. Doctor says I have to have surgery to remove it. Should be a quick and easy deal, and I will be feeling much better in no time!! In fact he said the pain after surgery will probably be better than what I'm dealing with now!

If if you experience problems with this kind of stuff, go get checked!! It can get bad if not treated!

Hi there. Thanks for posting.

This is pretty timely for me. I just mad an appointment with a CRS to look at an anal fistula. It was
diagnosed by the surgeon that drained a recurring abscess and she said it should be a CRS to treat it.

Mine has been a little uncomfortable but not too hard to live with although I;m tired of dealing with the
draining.

Is there anything special you were/are doing prior to surgery with the fistula? My original surgeon thought I would
get into a CRS pretty quickly but I have another 2 weeks to go and I'm not doing anything special with
it yet. Drainage has lessened but seems to come nd go depending on what I've been sitting on.

I wouldn't say it is common. There are a good group of people that have some issues based on loose/acidic stools. I asked my
Surgeon if this was DS related and she didn't think so. Mine started with a peri-anal abscess and the Doc just said that
this was just something that happens sometimes caused by glands that get impacted. Once you have an abscess it seems
to be a 50/50 call if you develop a fistula.

You'll see more posts about hemorrhoids and fissures but that is mainly because people really need help/answers in those
cases so they reach out.

LTL.

I can sympathize with what you are going through.. I had surgery for an Anal Fistula and OMG I felt better almost instantly.  I went through horrendous pain prior to surgery. So I would highly rec going through with the surgery.. I did develop and Abscess after the surgery, but it's not common to. And after having it drained many many times, I had to have surgery for that, but I have had no problems since..
