How long were you off work after surgery?

i am getting lots of different messages.  I have heard 2 weeks all the way to 12!  So assuming a non-eventful DS and a very sedentary job - when should I expect to make it back to work (not that I am in a hurry 😇).

I took 3 weeks off. Then thinking I was fine, my first day back decided that I would do half days for the 4 th week. I was very tired, I work 10 hr days. I think everyone is different. Good luck!

Totally depends on your job.

I have a desk job that I do from home - along with taking care of 2 kids under 5. I was back to working at 6 days post-op. If I'd had to be at an office, in a desk chair - I probably would have needed at least another week. I can only take sitting up straight for so long before I need to move to the recliner or the couch.

I would have been OK going back after 2 weeks with a desk job but for that third week I was still tired enough to nap in the
afternoon. If I needed to be at work I could have powered through but glad I didn't have to.

Resilience after surgery is such a personally specific experience, but one thing to ask yourself is what kind of impression you wish to put on your employer?  Do you want to be coddled when you return, or do you want to return at your normal level of performance?

I have a very active (but not strenuous) job, and I took 8 weeks off because I wanted to return without so much as a wrinkle in my job duties.  I was extremely listless for a good 5-6 weeks, and I skated the final two just finalizing a good schedule for eating, vitamins, drinking, etc.  I was glad I had it because I was very prepared to return, and I hit the ground running from day one.  My superiors' impression was that I'm tough as nails.

I would highly recommend at least 4 weeks to ensure your head's in the game.

I took 2 weeks off in total, did just fine but was still working on getting all liquids in and moving on to phase 2 of my diet. If you can take more time off I would take it, 3 weeks I would have been happier with, basically  just more confident with my routine.

I started with 6 weeks and added 2 more.  I was 55.  It was tough going back for that first couple of weeks...

My Doc said you can do it easy two weeks! But to get use to eating and drinking, he recommended 4 wks, which I took and did fine!

I'm taking two weeks and I actually brought my laptop with me and I'm at the hospital now and worked couple hours today. (1 day post op). I think for a sedentary job it's a lot easier to get back to work.
