Gastric Emptying Study

Looking for a little guidance.  I getting close to my surgery date of 10/8/14 and my Surgeon schedule an Endoscopy this past Tuesday morning 9/23/14 just to make sure I did not have any ulcers or a hernia.  I was not to have anything to eat or drink for 6 hours or after midnight the day before.   I had a really long day at work on Monday and was not able to finish eating dinner until 10:15 (still well within the 6 hours & before midnight).  At the end of the procedure the Surgeon told me I still had food in my stomach and he wants be to have a Gastric Emptying Study.  I really worried that something will happen to jeopardize my surgery.  I've looked up "lazy stomach" or Gastroparesis, and I'm sure I don't have it, because I have none of the symptoms listed.  Has this happened to anyone else?  Please put my mind and heart at ease.....Thank you!

I've had the same thing happen to me. Sometimes it would take about 15 hours to empty my stomach. Most times it empties in a few hours. I had an endoscopy 15 hrs after the previous nights dinner, and my stomach was mostly full. I had the complete gastric emptying study done, and it showed food was moving, just really slow. A few days later, I had another one done, and everything was fine. Doctors (Mayo Clinic) were not too concerned, as food was still moving. I still fill extremely full sometimes, but it has always worked through. Sometimes, just going out for a long stroll helps, but not always.
