Hi yall, so just a question or 2. So the schedule my dr has me on is that I need to eat about every 3 hours, but most of the time I am hungry by 2 hours, should I make myself wait til the 3rd hour or go ahead and have something to eat?

Also, when can you if ever have something to drink with your meals? I am 9 weeks out. Thanks for y'all's help.

Hi Honeyshell.

I would go ahead and eat if you can. Usually people have the opposite problem they just don't have room or feel like
eating.

Drinking is more of a personal choice issue. It takes up room in your stomach and you don't have that much room early
on so I would avoid it for the first 3 or 4 months - easy to overfill your stomach at that point and the results are not pretty.
A sip won't kill you so if you need a little help with digesting something dry go for it. You jsut want to avoid stretching or damaging
anything early on. Once everything is healed and starting to settle down you can do some experimenting to see if you have room for more liquid
or you just need to concentrate on protein.

I didn't start more than an occasional sip until about a year but I didn't miss it. Some people start much earlier.

You might ask your surgeon why he wants that, but my guess is that he is trying to discourage grazing.  Eating meals is good.  Eating a little continuously will eventually add up to more food than you need.  It does sound like some of the veterans have made grazing work for them, so ymmv.

I eat every 2-3 hours.  Just make sure that what you're eating goes towards your protein quota for the day, like a piece or two of cheese, deviled egg, lunchmeat, etc.  I keep these easy grab & go foods to keep my hand out of the cookie jar.  As for drinking.  A sip or two isn't going to make much of a difference, but keep your drinking down just for the reason of making the most of the room in your stomach for food.  I usually don't do much more than a few sips while eating, then will drink a little more after I'm done eating.  It's not a rule - just good for my comfort.
