We suffer from this problem because the norm is to remove the gallbladder during the DS surgery. It is just a possibility  for bile salts diarrhea to happen for a few months to a year after having your gallbladder removed. Doctors rarely do anything about this because it normally goes away. They do not realize that added to our NOW daily routine of pooping more it will cause severe irritation. Is your poop smelly like sulfur? Is it funny colored, brownish to yellow?

I posted on a different board asking about the differences between what vitamin doses my surgeon and vita-lady recommend and the response was enlightening.  It seems like many of the veterans do not take Vitamin B pills at all.  What ever is in the multi-vitamin seems to keep their labs in the green.

Hi Mike,

So sorry to hear about the problems you are having getting this resolved. I don't think, beyond how it may have changed
the acidity, there is any issue caused by the DS. I had a peri-anal abscess (twice) where I spent some time talking to my
surgeon (general surgeon not GI) but she didn't think the changed anatomy would make any difference in having a GI surgeon
operate if I needed it. I think we were talking about surgery for a fistula at the time. A problem that might happen with a recurring
abscess. I know that is different from a fissure although the exact difference always escapes me until I look it up but I think the
remark about surgery and changed anatomy holds true.

The few posts I've seen have all been thankful that they finally went for surgery.

I hope it gets resolved one way or another soon. Feel better.

Pete

Thanks Pete, I went to see another colon rectal surgeon today, not much luck there either. He told me basically that surgery isnt a good idea after WLS and that I may be dealing with this a long long time. He even mentioned reversing my ds may be only long term fix. I'm going to see one more surgeon recommended to me by directer of bariatrics at hospital I had my surgery done and see what they say. we will see, anyway I see you are doing really well with weight loss! Great job buddy!- MIke

Hey Mike!

I didn't read through all responses so if there is one similar to mine, I apologize!  I have been dealing with chronic fissures for 2 years and it has been absolute hell!  I have been so proud of myself for losint 180 pounds and being healthy and Ive been in and out of the hospital/surgeries with this issue... it has just been so sucky!

I have had 4 botox injections with two of them did help for a few months offering total relief from any pain.  The most recent two did not help at all and I am now talking to my Dr. about a Sphincterotomy.  DId your Dr. suggest the botox injections?  There is also a nitroglycerin ointment that my dr. put me on as well as a nifedopine ointment that is supposed to relax the muscle after the BM (doesn't help me but could be worth asking about).

I"m SO sorry you are going through this!  I also take Hydrocodone 10mg (2 at a time doesn't even offer relief).  I wouldn't wish this type of pain on anyone and I hope you get an answer!  please feel MORE than free to message me if there is anything I can give you details!

Good luck!!

Hi,

my mom has had issues with fissures that developed after radiation and chemo from colon cancer.  She has tried everything under the sun.  We finally found a cream that heals the skin.  It's dr. Wheatgrass super anti-oxidant cream.  You can buy it on amazon for about 50 bucks.  A little goes a long way.  Also she takes b6 that helps with the nerve endings.  Hopefully this info will help!

Hi Again Mike

I would go for a second opinion to another colon rectal surgeon.. They should be able to cure your problems with the fissure.. That is insane that you just have to deal with it.. As I said Surgery was a godsend for me..
