Wine

Question for those oldies (surgery-wise of course). Were/are you able to drink a glass of wine by several months+ out?  I never really thought about it before but was curious.

I waited the full 18 months as suggested by my surgeon.  You will probably get a variety of responses but I would at least wait until 12 months out.

The key is waiting until your weight loss is slowed down or stopped.  The rapid loss is hard on the liver.  The last thing you want to do is risk permanent damage by adding alcohol at the same time.

Ditto what Valerie posted. I waited over 2 years.

Just me, but I was afraid of screwing up my honeymoon phase and held out before alcohol passed through these lips.

I drank my first glass of wine exactly one month after my DS operation to celebrate my birthday.  I drink a glass of wine on occasion in social settings.  The last time I drank a glass was on my birthday earlier this year.

I am coming up on my 5 year surgiversay.  And yes you can have wine.  But understand that you are a true light weight 1 glass for us is a lot, and if you are pulled over at a DUI stop, and have only had 1 glass, you might very well get a DUI.

Thank you for all the responses everyone!

What I was specifically wondering is-does wine (red or white) cause stomach upset from the sugar/carbs for most people?

Thank you!

No problems for me, but I don't drink much anymore.  It doe**** fairly fast in system.  Like the first few sips and my face goes red.
