Lymphedema After DS

I had the same question, however I'm have the sleeve done. I have lymphadema in one leg and I have had it for quite sometime. I did lose about 80lbs on my own 10 years back the lymphadema was still prevalent, however it was as bad as it is now (I have gained the weight back).

I meant to say it wasn't as bad after losing the weight!

Thanks so much for the reply! I'm glad to hear it got at least somewhat better.

Losing weight helped my lymphedema in conjunction with getting MLD manual lymph massage and compression wrapping. Are you getting any treatment for your lymphedema currently? True though lymphedema is a life long condition, no cure just treatment and managing the swelling. I'll be sure to head over to the LE forum and give some replies there too...thanks for pointing that out...this came in through my Google alert but the others have not.

Oh my go****hanks for responding, Sarah - I just saw your reply now! (I must be missing something like alerts to tell me when someone responds... I hve that box checked when I post, but i still don't get any notifications. Weird.) Yes, I have compression stockings which I wear religiously, and I've had MLD, had my legs wrapped (though it's past time to do that again), have a Reid sleeve, etc. My LE and lipedema are as well-managed as possible, but it's heartening to know that perhaps there will be less LE bulk to my legs once I lose a lot of weight. :)

I have Reid Sleeves too...I've had lapse in treatment being without insurance for a year, needed new garments but legs were swollen and needed PT for wrapping and couldn't not pay for that out of pocket as I was trying to do for other medical needs, all a big Medicare red tape nightmare. :-( But yes, all we can do is keep treating the LE...any weight off the groin area will help the management...I often say LE and obesity is like chicken and the egg...which came first...I know my docs wanted to blame the LE on weight but either way...the LE needs treated in addition to any weight loss efforts.
