my teeth have taken a hit
It has been a long time since I have posted. I had surgery in March 2013 then had a tummy tuck and hernia repair in January 2014. I have lost a total of 140lbs and am almost to my goal. I recently went to the dentist for my annual check and just in the past year I have acquired 11 cavities. I was stunned. I knew my teeth ached a little but have always experienced sinus issues so just wrote it off. I am in the process of getting them all filled. The first dentist wanted to crown all of them so got a second opinion. I am just not ready to have all my teeth cut down to nubs yet. I know there will come a time when I will have to tho. the second dentist is filling them. The one thing they agreed on is that my teeth have eroded due to too much acid in my mouth. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this and was it caused from eating too much after surgery. I noticed if I ate too much it all came right back up and am thinking this is where the stomach acid effected my teeth. I can now eat about 4-6 oz so rarely have the problem of not keeping food down. Any thoughts or suggestions??
thanks
I had a little bit of problem but my dentist didn't chalk it up to acid...probably a good guess on your dentist's part though. How is your bone density, and labs for D3, calcium and PTH?

I have had some aweful experience with the teeth. The two dentist I went to just say, it can be anything, like genetics...they really do not try to eliminate or come up with a solution. My two of my teeth have cracked and basically deterioate to the point that I had to get them removed. Your dentist could be right because I have experience acid reflux, and think its a digestion issue. My was sensitive to spicy food, and I can no longer drink like I use to...so. I am going to schedule a gastric specialist, for the GI. I have not had that checked out since presurgery and it is good to see how everytihng is operating down there. Also the teeth was cracking because I was or maybe still accessible to abcess in the mouth, which is bacteria. Not sure if my bacteria in my system is thrown off, but hopeful the GI will advise me.
Also since the removal of my teeth, my mouth feel better, but that is for now...I do not want the same crap to happen to my other teeth.

I've always been proud of my beautiful smile, but after I had my DS in 12/2010, I neglected to take my vitamins as I should have AND I inherited gum disease from my mother, so I was definitely at a disadvantage. I moved to a different city so last week, I figured I'd better get them checked, so after having them examined, I was told I would need a deep cleaning (where they go under the gums to clean). While doing that, they found that I had a hole the size of the grand canyon in one tooth, and 2 cavities (1 on each side of my mouth). The hole was beneath the gum line, so I wasn't aware of it. So a few days later, I went back because they'd told me that I may have to have a root canal. I cringed at the thought but figured it was necessary, seeing that I hadn't been to the dentist in 2 yrs. So I go in for the root canal - to prepare my mouth, they're swabbing it and putting this balloon-type material inside to isolate the tooth, which was way in the back in the top. They put in some type of crow-bar (it seemed) that kept my mouth open wide. I was a little nervous, but I knew I was in good hands. As a matter of fact, I went to sleep 3 or 4 times even with the drill and other noises going on around me (which was odd because I'm a very light sleeper). I was in that position from 1:00 to 4:30 pm. After it was all over, the doctor took everything out of my mouth and said, "okay, you can close now, we're all done." I went to close my mouth and guess what? "I COULDN'T CLOSE IT!!! I immediately went into a panic as I was attempting to talk with my jaws locked in that position. The assistant held my hand, trying to reassure me, "don't worry, it's an easy fix". She's massaging the back on my jaw from behind while the dentist went into the next room. He came back, sat behind me and held the back of my neck while holding my jaw at the same time and Joila!, my jaw was unhinged. I wanted to kiss everyone in that office. I can't tell you the fear that had come over me when I realized I couldn't close my mouth, no matter how hard I tried. The dr said, "it happened because your mouth had been in that position for so long that your neck and jaw muscles relaxed in that position." The assistant then said, "hey, watch this" and then she voluntarily locked her jaw with a mouth movement and placed my hand underneath to show that it was really locked. Then she moved her mouth a certain way and it became unlocked. She then whispered to me, "my husband taught me that trick". We all had a laugh about it, but i'll be going back next month so I can have the 2 cavities taken out (I wanted to keep them, but because of their position, it wouldn't cause a shift in my teeth if they were taken out anyway). I now have been doing the vitamin D, Cal-Mag, and Calcium as part of my Vitalady regime (along with my other vites as well) and I know that it will take awhile to get my numbers up, but it's a lesson learned.

We are, each of us angels with only one wing; and we can only fly by embracing one another.
Thanks Berta for sharing. I can truly appreciate your story! Glad you were able to get your jaw unlocked BTW.
I ended up having to have my teeth filled and 6 new crowns put on the bottom. It was hard to put on my big girl
panties and do it but its done now. I had to go to the chiropractor afterwards to get my jaw to relax because it hurt
so bad from being open for so long so I can appreciate a little your panic. Yes, vitamins are important. I need to stay
up on mine better too.
