Stomach bug or what?

I'm going on 5 weeks post op, I've been doing pretty good with my eating. I'm on soft stage right now. I'm able to eat pretty much anything. During the past week my kids have had the stomach bug, diarrhea and throwing up. It's pretty much ran thru the whole house, my parents, hubby and the kids have had this bug. Now as of Friday, I've been nauseous and occasional diarrhea but mainly my stomach is gurgling and just plain nausea. I try to eat my protein but mainly focusing on my liquids. Gatorade and water. I know I've barely gotten 40 grams of protein the past couple of days. Is this okay? To top it all off today is my birthday and all I did was lay around in bed because I'm so tired and everything is turning my stomach. I had cottage cheese, that made me run the the bathroom, protein drink made me run the the bathroom, I made me some instant mashed potatoes and that settled okay, then I ate some fried potatoes and I did okay with that but it's making my stomach gurgle some more. Ughhh!! I don't know if it's the stomach bug or just the DS causing me some issues. I'm down 30lbs since surgery!! YAY ME!!

Congrats on your new  very own DS.  Sorry your fam has been sharing that gawd awful bug. Not fun.  Be extra kind to your tummy right now.

I was lactose intolerant, so cottage cheese sent me straight to the bathroom. Horrible gas pains too.

for some reason, mashed potatoes, fried potatoes, pretty much potatoes of any kind settled well in my tummy, but I was super cautious of the carbs.

since you're only 5 weeks out, I would think fluids, especially if you suspect having a stomach bug, would be more important  to get down than protein.

what do you make your protein shakes with? Could you mix up the recipe to be tolerable?

I only use the pre made protein shakes. I've only find one that I can tolerate and that's Premier Protein. That's what I worry about with the potatoes but I try to only eat a couple spoonfuls. The mashed potatoes really helps settle my stomach down, and I did pretty good with the fried ones too. I just had to clean up my son's throw up!!! OMG!! I am so afraid this will make me very sick and end up in the hospital on IV fluids because of this bug!! My new plumbing is still healing up and this bug I don't need.
