I had my DS in December 2014 and before then, my husband was really in love with me... But since I had the DS, the smell of the gas has us sleeping on opposite sides of our King sized bed. Before, I thought we needed a bigger bed because even though we had king sized, we would sleep so tight that it felt like a twin. But since my gas is so horried, I feel like we sleep so far apart that its like we are in separate beds. Its war all day everyday. It is so terrible that the smell of it chokes me at times. I get so embarrased at the supermarket, at work, at church, in my vehicle... my kids seem to hate it too... Please help...somebody.. anybody...???

There are many times I have to sleep in another room. My best advice is no carbs equals no gas. It really works. If you google flatulence underwear you will find some products out there. I tried the underwear and they work okay. Try eliminating carbs its hard but life changing.

carbs sugar and artificial sweeteners cause my gas/stool to be really stinky. Eliminating as much of those as you can helps.

There is a product you take. By mouth called Devrom,WWW?Devrom.com that neutralizes the order from the inside out. You might try it. Gl

I'm sure this is a strain, but there are some things you can do to get to the bottom of the culprit:

Three big gas triggers - try eliminating all of these and introduce one at a time slowly - waiting for a reaction before adding another.

  1. Dairy - may be all, but for many of us, it's only a couple of items like straight milk.  If you add milk to protein, switch to water.  Try swapping out whey protein for soy or egg white protein.  Whey gives me terrible gas.
  2. Artificial Sweeteners --  Some are extremely sensitive, especially any sweetener that ends in "tol"
  3. Carbs - yes carbs, the easiest to pinpoint.
  4. Wildcards - strange things that hit you by surprise.  I, for instance, went for years (YEARS) accepting that evening gas was a way of life before I put 2 and 2 together about onions.  It took a night of  nearling ****ting myself after the most delicious bowl of french onion soup.  I cut out onions for a week and was amazed at the results.

Another one that put me for a loop was teriyaki sauce.  It was suggested by someone as I was scratching my head every wednesday at work for my lovely stir fry filled with only steak and veggies (no onions).  I switched to another sauce and it was no longer a problem.
  5. Bacterial imbalance.  It's something that occurs with RNY as well as DS.  The flora in our bowels gets out of whack and needs help.  That's why so many take probiotics.  If it gets too bad, some wipe out the colony all together with an antibiotic, then repopulate when the cycle is complete.

Now these are some things to try.  You may still have days, but once you identify the culprits, life gets much easier.  My hubs hasn't had to sleep on the couch in at least 6 months.

Hmmmm. Sounds like me 5 yrs ago. I was a carb maniac. Kept it under 35g each day and still had horrid, painful, paint peeling gas. It was so bad, once, I farted in my car as I was getting home from work, and the next morning, there was still a slight odor inside the car.  I tell ya, that's some powerful gas there.

Anyway. What do you eat in a typical day? Trying to find your triggers will greatly help. For me it was dairy and peanuts or cashews. See, I thought I was doing my DS good by eating nuts.  Wrong, and  1/2&1/2 is still not welcome in my house.

Each of us is so different. It amazes me how one food is cool with some and deadly with others.

Oh yeah, I ate a hard boiled egg for breakfast everyday for like 3 years, then guess what happened a few months ago? You guessed it, I started getting gas from them.

Eggs.....go figure.

You get the point. With us, it is always something we consume that gives us gas & bloating. Diary, carbs, I've even read that someone's multi vitamin gave them  gas.

You'll get it sorted out. In the meantime, ask hubs to be patient with you.

oh gosh you must be heart broken...not sure when you had the ds since you say Dec 2014?  I hardly ever pass gas, weeks go  by (but when I fall off the wagon oh my gosh!!!) the ds will let you know if you are not eating correctly, some more than others, but we all get it, the amount is different.  the only time you will not be able to correct is your am BM, I will assume you only go in the AM.  to get rid passing gas....

get a good probiotic (Gina recommended VSL#3DS and I use it too, love love it amazing!!!!)

get rid of all breads, pasta, simple sugars, artificial sweetners, etc

ONLY EAT good quality protein  eggs, chicken, fish, beef AND very low carb vegetables  with 5 CHO/serving and nothing else, nothing.  Drink plenty of water

if you follow this your gas passing will be gone....promise

I only have stinky farts if I eat sugar. Carbs do not even make me stinky anymore. I take four digestive advantage (gas) , and take four semithicone and  eat three yogurts per day. It has made quite a difference. Eating clean does.

Take a lot at the ingredients in any chewable vitamins that you might be taking.  Most of them are sweetened with Mannitol or Sorbitol or Xylitol or other sugar alcohols that will cause a lot of gas.  Even my tiny B12 tablets had enough sugar alcohol to cause me gas.  I have switched to the Opurity from Unjury.
