4 weeks out and going on a day trip...questions??

Hey y'all. So I am 4 weeks out of my ds surgery.  I have lost 24 lbs so far. This Saturday the state fair is close so me and my family are going... I'm excited and nervous. No I won't be riding any rides, just kinda looking, smelling and enjoying the day. Here lies the dilemma, the fair will NOT let you bring in any type of food or cooler. I am still on liquids and puréed foods. Can anyone suggest something's that might make the day better...I know I can't go all day with no protein drink. Water I can buy.

another question...why six weeks until solids??? Just wondering.

Thanks so much. Honey

Do you have in&out privileges? If so you could leave a cooler filled with protein and lots of ice in the car. Or maybe bring in a thermos full of protein drink? If you explain the situation they may let you in with it. Or - carry a big purse and "hide" something ;) Best of luck

At our state fair, they don't search you or your bags.  I would get a note from your doctor stating that you are on a specialized diet of protein shakes.  That should allow you to take in your shakes in case you are searched.  It would be no different than a diabetic taking his/her insulin in with him.  It is medically necessary.  If the gate attendant gives you any problems, ask for a manager.

I was eating soft foods the day I came home from the hospital at 5 days post-op and cleared to eat solid foods at about 4 weeks post-op.  I would not have had the energy to go to the state fair at 4 weeks post-op!

Thank you all so much. I will try to get the note. Hoping it will work.

Energy is an issue, taking bits since I came home, drinking protein, and trying to get all my water in. I went back to work for half days at week 3 . Now at week 4 back on full days, 10 hr shifts. Today was hard but I did it. I will keeping working on my energy. Thanks again for all the words of advice I really appreciate it.

If you are using powder for your protein shakes just pack the powder and a mixer and then combine at the fair.

6 weeks is what my Doc gave me too but I was able to go to pureed after 3 and push the whole thing forward a little.
They are just trying to make sure you don't eat anything that will cause a problem. I would consider any soft foods at
the fair as something to try. No chunks though.

My vote is to pack some protein powder into your purse and buy water to shake it with.

I know this is past your question but something that always works for me in these situations is I tell the people at the gate that I am Hypoglycemic.  You don't need medical proof like diabetes and most places let you bring in one or two things but keep it under wraps.

I've never had a problem using this.  HOPE IT WAS SUCCESSFUL!!!
