What am I doing wrong?

I had my surgery back in March of 2012. I lost 81 lbs and now I'm gaining weight. I still eat small portions I workout five days a week. Yoga on Sundays 45mins, Muscle Max on Tuesdays 60mins, A Treadmill Class on Wednesday 30mins, Zumba on Friday and Saturdays 60mins each day. I've added chia seeds and flax seeds ground flax whole wheat grains. I use zuccini instead of pasta I use cooking spray and if I use oil it's olive and only 2 tablespoons. I measure out my food lots of vegatables and I get my protein in daily. I try to do 10,000 plus steps a day. I track all my movments and my food intake.  So why can't I bet under 200 lbs. This is so heart breaking I'm thinking I need to do my surgery all over again. Can someone help me.

Please don't be discouraged.  The exercise is GREAT!!! please keep doing that.  You may be eating more carbs that you think you are.  As the years go on it becomes easier not to pay as close of attention as possible.  Please be sure you are WEIGHING everything out so you are able to track your calories properly.  A lot of times a CUP of something isn't the same as OUNCES.  Weight is more accurate than sizes in terms of tracking.  It may be beneficial to really go back to what you know about the surgery.  Go back to as FEW carbs as possible.  Even Zucchini has carbs in it.  Whole wheat grains are still carbs and you could just be more sensitive to those carbs.  GO back to basic lean proteins and good, healthy fats for a while and dark green veggies when you feel you have a little extra room.   Continue to move.  Really track honestly what you are eating in terms of weight of the portions and be sure you are conscious of any spreads, dressings, beverages and sauces that you use and nibbles you take because all of that adds up.

The DS doesn't work unless you work it.  You will get there!!!

I hope this helps.  GOOD LUCK!

I'm not sure why you're posting on the DS forum when you had RNY, but no matter. I'll try to answer.

It sounds like you are doing everything right. The fault isn't with you, it's the nature of the operation that you had. Many people with RNY never reach normal weight. Many need to eat a very strict low calorie, low carb, low fat diet for life just to prevent weight regain, nevermind lose to goal. Since you're a guy I'm not sure exactly what the numbers would be for you, but women I've met with RNY tell me that if they go above 800 calories/day they gain. It is not a perfect operation, and most, well at least some, bariatric surgeons are honest enough to tell people ahead of time that they should not expect to end up slim.

In the wonderful world of bariatric surgery, if you lose at least 50% of your excess weight you are counted as a success. That's all it takes, and while there are some people who do extremely well with RNY, there are many who lose 50  60% of their excess weight and simply can't lose more no matter how hard they try. They are counted as successes, though they may not feel so very successful.

For me, this was the deal breaker that prevented me from having RNY. And yes, it is heart breaking. If you do decide to have further surgery, I would suggest converting to the DS rather than having your RNY re-done. There is no reason to expect a different result if you do the same thing again, unless there is some flaw in your present RNY that can be corrected, which is possible but not likely. You can learn more about the DS at dsfacts, but keep in mind that revising from RNY to DS is a very difficult operation and there are just a few surgeons who do it.

I wish you good luck and wish I had something better to suggest.

Renee, I apologize. The picture is small and my eyes are old. I meant no offense.

I wish I had some better info to offer than what I wrote before, but I don't. Again, I believe the problem is not you, but rather the nature of the operation itself. Many people with gastric bypass, both men and women, never get to a "normal" weight despite doing everything right. I wish I had something more positive to say about gastric bypass, but I don't. Please keep in mind that anything that seems negative in this post is NOT about you, it's about the operation.

I am in aggreement with Larra. We have a different surgery.  You should probably post on the RNY page.  I had the DS surgery, and if I did all those exercises like you, I better stay small. I need to do some exercise consistently like you so I can maintain my weight and watch my carbohydrates.
