DS surgery pending

I am 30, mother of tow. I just recently gave birth to my 2nd son a month ago. I was referred by my obgyn to a bariatric surgeon. I was approved and am doing the sleep study tonight. Even though I know I will greatly benefit from this, I am still uncomfortable with posting my current weight until I get the surgery. I have UHC and as far as they have told me, it I mostly covered, save for my  deductibles. My great worry is trying to lose to much weight than what is healthy for me and the inevitable hemorrhoids I keep reading about. Has anyone been able to have the DS surgery and not experience hemmies?

Lots of people have the DS or other bariatric surgery and don't get hemorrhoids. Lots of people who have never had any kind of bariatric surgery do get hemorrhoids. There are many factors involved. There is nothing inevitable about this, but of course the people unfortunate enough to get them are posting about them in hopes of getting helpful advice. this is not a random sample of people with the DS.

Good for you for doing your research and working to improve your health. You are absolutely not required to post your weight or bmi, or anything else about you that you consider too personal. It's completely up to you.

Hi! I am 5 yrs post op and my hemorrhoids rarely bother me. Maybe once or twice a year.

Don't know if it makes a difference, but I never wipe with toilet tissue. Only use those pre moistened wipes that are made for tushy care.

Choosing to have WLS is a huge step in taking responsibility for your health, please don't let the thought of getting hemorrhoids be a deciding factor.

Wishing you the best of luck on your journey.

Oh, it will not sway me away from it. I am very excited. The only fear I have, is the hemrrhoids. I'm very at ease about the procedure. I appreciate the feedback I've received. As soon as I get the procedure, mill feel more comfortable posting my weight. Let's just say, it fell into the super catagory

I was 350 at my top weight and lost 200 pounds with my DS within one year.  That was well over 6 years ago.  In year two, I had a 10 pound bounce back as I settled into a normal life routine and I have been easily maintaining around the 160 level for five years, which is an ideal weight for my 5'7" height.

Before surgery, I was embarrassed to share with anyone what I weighed.  I thought it was an admission of my failure, and somehow by not saying it out loud, no one would know.  With the lost weight came gained confidence, and great improvement in my health.

Good luck with your surgery.  It is an amazing choice.  PS - no hemorrhoids for me

As far as stereotypes go the one where DS causes hemorrhoids is pretty off the mark but those of us who get
them aren't happy  about it so we can be vocal. It's funny because I thought most pregnant women get hemorrhoids. Obviously, I have
no kids. :)

When I asked the Doc if the DS caused my hemorrhoids he just laughed and said I was at that age (55).

Not something you really need to worry about - they happen for a lot of reasons.

I don't have any more than the one I got during my pregnancy.

I hope that holds true with me as well. I escaped them both times. Haha. I paid my pain dues in other areas. First son, I felt the c section. I weighed 300. Second son my hips dislocated and I got hit by a car. Also took over 30mins to place the spinal block, and I got a yeast infection at my incision site due to skin folds
