He;;o everyone! Im doing really well with my weight loss about 120 down from HW! So yay! However soon after surgery I developed some bad hemorroids and then they got a little better about 2 months out. Better but not gone! I have had them looked at 2 months back at hospital one night where I could hardly move, they just told me same ole story, that they would get better on there own. Well this week almost four months post surgery they are much worse again and killing me! Ive tried procto-phome as recommended by some on here not much good for me. Long story short, has anyone really beaten this problem long term? If so I would love to know! This surgery is changing my life every day and I just want these suckers to go away! Any help is always appreciated- Thanks- MIke

Hey Mike long time no hear. Good to see your doing OK - with a few exceptions. :)

I had my first ever hemorrhoids at about 9 months. My PCP gave me a prescription for hydro-cotrisone suppositories
that really helped - after the roids ruptured and bled. Doc told me they were thrombosed which meant there was a clot and
until they burst I wasn't going to feel any relief. They burst about a day later - immediate relief and the suppositories seemed
to help heal them.

They off and on irritate me. Tucks Pads (Witch hazel) seemed to help more than anything else. Also I switched to Charmin ultra
soft for the initial wiping and Baby wipes to finish up. Never flush the baby wipes no matter what the package says. :)

I was recently in the hospital for an abscess that I ignored too long thinking it was just roids and I was introduced to "sitz baths"
which were good for my healing abscess and to calm the hemorrhoids. They let me bring mine home (cheap plastic that they were
going to throw out anyway). Fits on a toilet and you fill with warm to ho****er. Depending on how long you soak there is a bag you
can hook up to add more ho****er but for 10 - 15 minutes I don't really need that.

So for me the sitz baths and the Tucks for now but if it gets to the point where I can't stand it it seems a Colo-rectal surgeon is the
go to kind of Doc to see about a more permanent fix, although I recently learned there are some general surgeons that do the
same thing.

Thanks Pete! I have app tues with colon rectal surgeon. Today they are even worse. Ive tried all over the counter, last time witch hazel helped a little, this time it actually seems to hurt more when I try it. What is an abscess? I saw that you had one, did everything go ok with it? Anyway hopefully tomorrow I will get some relief I dont care what they do I cant sleep , rest, walk, just too much pain. Thanks for all the help-MIke

Good I hope he can get you some relief quick. I felt that way about all the Prep H stuff I tried. I
walked away thinking it just made it worse. I guess it is like everything else you keep working through
solutions until something works.   Good luck tomorrow.

An abscess is a pocket of infection (pus filled). Mine was a horseshoe type close enough to
the hemorrhoids that for a while I didn't see any difference between that and the roids.

My PCP took one look and sent me along to the hospital. They operated to make sure all the
infection got cleaned up. Sometimes if an abscess is small they just poke a hole and drain it
but no I'm just special that way......

Anyway, 2 days in the hospital and weeks later it is still healing but no pain to speak of just some
ever decreasing drainage.  I feel much better.

This has been a horrible ongoing problem for me for awhile but I have found ways to help. First off I increased my iron and calcium to stop the diarrhea. That helped. Most of my hemorrhoids are caused from acidic poop that is caused from my gallbladder being removed it is a condition that I have it is called Bile Salts poo. So, in order to help with the acid irritating my ass I use an enema of warm water after each movement in the morning and that had SO made a difference. I also soak in Epsom salts baths once a week.

The one thing that I love the most that REALLY helps is an electric heating pad. I put it on high and put it between my butt checks directly on my hiney and the heat takes the pain and swelling down quickly. I take 800mg of Ibuprofen then lay down with the heating pad and BAM after a short nap I am pain free and can sit again. Heat actually helps take swelling in the anus down better than cold does. It is the same with our tummies. I also keep aloe gel on hand for any open areas on my butt. I found something wonderful at Walgreens  a sunburn gel with Menthol, Lidocaine and Aloe for sunburns. It is called Walgreens Aloe Vera Pain relieving Gel with Lidocaine and menthol. It makes a wonderful butt gel for hemorrhoids. It takes the pain away and sooths and cools. Another cream I found that makes hemorrhoid creams look bad is a cream called Recticare. You can get it at Walgreens. It is just a cream with 5% lidocaine. The highest amount you can get. It completely deadens for those days that you are just miserable and need it deadened.

I hope this helps you. Put some of that Aloe Vera Menthol and Lidocaine gel on your but and even a little in your butt then slap that heating pad on. Take 800 mg of Ibuprofen and take a thirty minute nap. When you wake up you will feel SO much better.

Congrats on the awesome loss and commiserations on the hemerrhoids.  I've only had very minor hemmerrhoids, so in addition to the above good advice you've had I can recommend flagyl as it seems to have halted my 'roids and even  improved that situation (they nearly went away, but then thrush caused a recurrence).

Even though you're a guy and extremely unlikely to get thrush, I'd still strongly recommend a good probiotic like Primal Defense Ultra which has 25 billion CFUs (colony forming units) as opposed to the 4 billion my wimpy probiotic had.

I really hope you resolve the hemerrhoids ASAP as they can lead on to an anal fissure and you REALLY don't want that.

WHAT A PAIN IN THE A** (SORRY I HAD TO)  This is the WORST problem to have!  2 years ago I started with horrible hemmies that I thought were from weight lifting.  When they got worse, I was rushed to the emergency room becuase I was screaming on the toilet in agony.  The doctor told me that I had rectal fissures and had literally a rip in my tush.  I have had 4 botox injections to relax the muscles so that the fissure can heal and the hemmies are still there.  It is an on-going problem and the doctor said that it was caused by the soft consistency of the stool from the DS.

He suggested citrucel 3-6 times a day and this helps bulk things up a bit so it's not a toothpaste type consistency.  I also use prescription grade lidocaine like it is going out of style.  I do sitz baths twice a day after each BM and I make sure to drink a TON of water, eat plenty of fiber and NOT PUSH when I go to the restroom.  I have a desk job and I started standing at my desk to avoid sitting on them all day.  There are days where the pain gets so bad that I have to take a narcotic instead of just Ibuprofein.  Witch hazel also helped when I initially had the hemmies.

So sorry you are going through this Mike!  This is such an awful problem to have! I hope this helps!!!

Wow! I guess alot of us get these after surgery! Thanks for all the advise. I actually had an anal fissure 2 months before surgery, it was small and healed right up. Thats when I learned to eat better!!! I just have had throbbing pain that is wearing me down, I have an app tues with colon rectal doc so we will see what he says. Weird thing is they are worse standing than sitting, and lying down hurts, I just dont get it. Wish that they will be a quick fix but I doubt it. I think I will try the citrucel, I always think this pasty consistency would be better but I guess all the acid in there is whats really tearing me up! Thanks Lyss for all the help I appreciate all of it!-Mike  p.s. I have 5% lidocaine doesnt help numb me at all

Lyss, I agree taking fiber has really helped me as well. As long as my poo is firm my hemmies are much better. If they are too soft it is just killer on my ass. Kinda weird considering most hemmies are caused by constipation. The warm water enemas have really made a difference because part of my problem is my rectum thinks that it is never empty due to soft poo just sitting in the poop shoot. This irritates the hemmies (love what you call them). If I use the enema it cleans the poop shoot out and helps the hemmies go down because there is nothing there irritating them after I clean it out. warm to ho****er really feels good up there too. lol. My poo is really way firmer than it use to be but I think I could stand for it to be even firmer. I am thinking about increasing my iron again.

Mike,
I really wish you luck. I hope your doc can fix you up. One day when I get insurance I am going to have these little poo monsters removed.
