Is it vanity?

Dr. Bonnani definitely does the DS and has a good reputation. However, I have never heard of him doing a RNY to DS revision, and I've been on this forum and others dedicated to the DS for over 8 years. Of course you could ask him if he has ever attempted this revision, and see what he says. My guess is few to none, but that's just a guess.

Revising from RNY to DS is a very challenging, complex, and high risk operation. It means taking apart your entire RNY, putting your stomach and intestines back together the way they started, and THEN doing an entire DS (gastric sleeve and the intestinal switch). Given your individual situation with the second surgery on your stomach, to me that's all the more reason to consult with a surgeon very experienced with this specific type of revision. Given your location, the best choice is probably Dr. Roslin in NYC. If nothing else, you get a second opinion, and that may help you to be more confident about your decision. Or, you may find yourself with another option that you don't think you have at the moment. Revising from proximal RNY to didstal RNY is not known for providing great weight loss. It is lower risk, yes, but the results might not be as good. You have some tough decisions for sure. A second opinion would be helpful.

I echo what the others have posted.  My typical day is a large poo (with me multitasking putting on my makeup), and i"m usually done for the day.  Any other variables for the day are usually the effect of indulgences.  Your friend may be suffering a bacterial imbalance or isn't paying attention to what foods may be affecting her.   She isn't the normal example, though, and I urge her to try the antibiotics.

Hi Valerie.  That made me laugh when you said about multitasking!  I could see me doing that.  :-)

Do you know how long your common channel is?  It seems to me there is a correlation between the bypassed length and the bathroom issues, particularly the odor issues.  My friend has a common channel of 100.  Just wondering.

Thanks!

My common channel is also 100cm.  That is pretty standard, but some use the Hess method and determine a percentage of total length instead.

For me the only time mine is very smelly is after I eat a crazy amount of carbs.... Otherwise mine smells just like before DS.... Not sure what others are eating that would cause the severe smell... I would NEVER let the smell of poo stop me from having a DS.... This is the best I have ever felt! I am so much healthier than before and life is great again!  Goos luck

I had a bacterial imbalance that caused me to have severe diarhea for about three months and it smelled horrible. Once I incorporated some serious probiotics for  a month, added some serious Benefiber three times daily and adjusted my calcium things have gone back to normal. Yes, my poop stinks and has a funny smell compared to normal poop but it does not stink any worse than normal poop. It does tend to linger longer for some reason. However, that can be countered with poo Pourri and Ozium. My point is that the normal DS poo does stink more if you do not eat right or balance your bacteria. Usually I just go once in the morning for about an hour I am in and out of the bathroom sometimes just once though for about thirty minutes. After that I am done for the day. At times I go twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night. I rarely fart during the day anymore since I started taking Probiotics for gas. So this stuff can be fixed if you work on it.

As far as the body odor goes it is called ketosis burn. This is what happens when you cut carbs low in your diet for so long. It does not always cause a bad smell but it can for a short time. Mine was short lived for about a month then went away. It was only my breath and pee that stank like this. Ensure your friend that it will go away at some point. INform her to come here and talk to the vets about how to fix her diarrhea issues. Trust me they can help. They helped me.

I guess my digestive processing (aka, poo times) are different.  I may go in the morning, maybe not.  Usually I go once or twice during the day, and there are some days I don't poo at all.  It smells different, but not nearly as bad as I thought it would.  Please, listen to what the others have said.  Even though we are all different, those two situations you mentioned seem to be the extreme exceptions.  Today I reached the 100 pounds lost landmark.  There is nothing that matches that excitement.  You know that from before.  I think by the fact that you posted to OH, you are hoping for some advice, and strength to help with your decision.  There are so many advantages to the DS over RNY -- no more dumping!  Best wishes on your decision-making.
