Absorption of an egg, for example...

If I eat an egg, persay, and it's...
70 calories
5 g of fat
6 g of protein

Since we only (roughly) absorb 20% of fat, does this calculate into only absorbing 14 calories, 1 g of fat, and only 1-2 g of protein? I'm so confused.

You're going to drive yourself crazy trying to compute this stuff. It's all estimates anyway.

I'm not sure you can get valid answers but using 80% fat malabsorption and 50% protein malabsorption

I get 21 calories. 9 from the one gram of fat 12 from the 3 gms of protein.

At 10 years out you probably absorb much more that that.  Do you find it easier to track calories than track
protein and carb consumption?

You might try to go back to what I consider a DS starter diet.  Do high protein, low carb (

That's what I've been doing and it doesn't work for me for some reason. I used to eat ALL day everyday and never worried about anything. I always stayed 165 no matter what. I then decided a couple years ago I wanted to "diet" to lose more, BOOM, I've had horrible problems ever since. I don't know what my body is doing and it's soooo frustrating! I can't seem to find a balance for anything. I don't know if I'm eating too little, too much, too what! I'm going insane.

what did your "diet" consist of?

Why are you doing restrictive dieting, when you have a DS?

Not only is that not necessary, your depriving yourself of eating like a normal person.

Accept what your body is telling you.  It's comfortable, and hopefully, healthy and happy.  It also has to catch up with all the metabolic changes that have happened with your DS.

Trust me, just keep doing high protein/low carb, religiously take your vites and/or protein.  I still use shakes as protein insurance, and I don't gain from them.    Focus on getting the best possible nutrition from everything you choose to eat.  You'll start losing again, trust me.

I could swear my body forgot it had DS! It's really weird and I don't understand it.
