surgeon put a bug in my ear

so when i went to my pre op visit tuesday my surgeon told me he may not be able to do the switch all the way.  i have 2 hernias and one has part of my intestine wrapped up in it so he said depending on how things look when he opens me up he may only be able to do the sleeve portion of the switch and then bring me back in a few months to do the rest. i was kinda disappointed.  i want the full sleeve...im 398lbs...i dont think the sleeve will do anything for me like the switch would...

I have learned to appreciate a surgeon who speaks to me with his true thoughts then to tell me exactly what I want to hear.

So your best bet then would be to get a second opinion from a DS surgeon, one that has done more then your present surgeon has done. Most vetted DS surgeons are able to repair the hernias and still do the switch. It's all about skill. Some have a higher level of skill than others.

He said he would have to see once he gets in there. My hernias are wrapped up in my intestines so he said depends on how bad it's damaged

Any surgeon who says that he can guarantee anything during surgery is not one I'd be putting my money on.

Who is talking about a guarantee? I was talking about a vetted DS surgeon, that has the knowledge and skill.

The problem is, you can get a second opinion but it still stands that until they are preforming the surgery there is nothing definite even with the second opinion..  I fully agree a second opinion will never hurt.

He will do the hernias and then if he feels right about hit he will do the switch portion. Is that right?

It's disappointing but it sounds plausible. The issue seems to be how involved the one hernia repair will be.

As long as your good to go back under in a couple of months I think the sleeve gives you a jump start because it will be limiting your
intake. Best to have them working together but better to be safe.

Always a thought to get a second opinion but that can be hard too. Hope for the best.
