Lactose Intolerant

Since surgery, I have developed an intolerance to lactose. Does anyone have any recipes for lactose free meals or suggestions? I have found a couple sites online, but I would rather hear from experience than a cook book.

I'm just praying this is something my body will grow out of.

I hope you grow out of it too. I used Lactaid milk immediately post-op. You might also sub almond milk for regular milk in recipes.

Old cheeses are great lactose free options.  Subbing with yogurt or sour cream when milk is called for is also good.

and of course olive oil instead of butter ;)

It's hard to say, but your body may be okay with some dairy.  I, for instance, am extremely sensitive to raw milk, but things like cheese and yogurt don't bother me at all.

I became lactose intolerant immediately after surgery until 7 months out -- this tends to be quite common among us DSers.  I tried dairy again at 7 months and it did not bother me any more.  Hopefully your body will adjust.

Yeap, and still intolerant to drinking milk and ice cream.

I use half & half in my cooking. I can handle yogurt and cheese...but I still take a lactaid pill to help.

I'm 3 plus years out.

I can't handle anything! I use unsweetened almond milk in my baking/protein shakes. I use Earths Balance lactose-free butter on my Udi's toast in the morning. Instead of butter to cook my eggs (like I've done my entire life) I've switched to olive oil for years, and now I use either olive oil or coconut oil.
