Vitamin requirements

Is there a link to/or does someone have a list that maps out what daily Vitamin intake looks like after DS?

Thanks!

And thank you everyone for all of your help with my questions as I embark on this new journey. I am nervous about long term malnutrition but I am wrapping my head around this whole new lifestyle as best I can.

I tried to follow my surgeon's plan at first but it didn't work for me. Then I started using Vitalady's plan at about 6 - 9 months post-op with his approval. My labs were perfect at 1 year post-op. Link:  http://www.gblcreations.com/Resources/Gina/ProgramDRNY_ERNY_ BPDDS3-2010.pdf

Here's what I do - it's not gospel for all DSers, but it works *for me* --- it is modified from Vitalady's DS Plan - THat's what I did immediately post-op, and adjusted it according to my own personal labs.

Corrie’s Duodenal Switch LIFETIME Nutrition Requirements

64+ oz of hydration qd, preferably H2O

90-100g protein qd (Whey Protein Isolate shakes (30g each) with Daily Nutrition Plan)

4 Centrum Complete-type Multivitamin/Mineral Tablets qd (supplemented with NOW Multivitamin/Mineral Liquid PRN)

3000 mg Calcium Citrate qd (supplemented with NOW Cal-Mag with D Liquid PRN)

1-2 1.0ml B12 inj monthly, IM (supplies 1000-2000 mcg Cyanocobalamin per inj, per bariatric supplement plan,/lab results)

200 mg Thiamin (Vitamin B1) qd

Creon 24000 units (digestive enzyme capsules) One capsule with meals and snacks (aids absorption of nutrients, also taken with vitamin, mineral and protein supplements per surgeon's order - this is prescription, and not necessary for everyone)

650 mg Iron qd taken with 500 mg Vitamin C

B Complex 100 – 2 tabs qd

Chelated Zinc - 200 mg qd (moderate deficiency- added TFN per May 2012 labs)

Dry Vitamin A – 25,000 IU qd

Dry Vitamin D – 100,000 IU qd Twice weekly TFN - per May 2012 labs

Dry Vitamin E – 800 IU qd

Dry Vitamin K 1- 2,000 mcg qd (Moderate deficiency- per May, 2012 labs)

Dry Vitamin K 2 – 10,000 mcg qd

(All fat soluble vitamins {A, D, E, K} *MUST* be in dry form! Duodenal Switch patients *cannot* use oil/softgel based capsules!

DS Patients malabsorb calcium, iron, copper, some B vits., A, D, E, K1, K2, K3

OTC Medications Immodium 2mg/4 times daily PRN for stomach cramps & diarrhea (rarely used at 3 years post-op)

Devrom (Bismuth Subgallate) 2 capsules up to four times daily PRN (controls gas and BM odor, usually controlled by avoiding simple carbs & simple sugars)

I also started with Vitalady's routine per Gina's link.  By getting labs done every 6 months, you can tell how it is working for your DS configuration and adjust accordingly.  For example, my iron was in the high range, so I reduced the amount taken.  My A was in the low range so I increased the amount taken.  I get feedback on lab results and vitamins taken from the doctor and other DSers.  I set reminder alarms on my phone so I can space things out into 6 doses per day.

I started with a combination of the ASMBS 2008 nutritional guidelines and my Docs initial list. I've since added some of the things from the Vitalady list and other stuff like K2 where the information made it seem like it would be helpful. Not great labs but nothing crashed either.
