Revision question

Hello everyone!!! I have a question....I am considering having a revision done. On June 29, 2005 I had Roux-en-y bypass. At the time of surgery I was 409 lbs. After almost 1 1/2 years post op I was down to 285 lbs. then I got pregnant. After that I went through some very hard times (mother and best friend passed away, homeless, unemployed....etc). As of today I am back up to 400 lbs. My question is has anyone had a revision? And is it possible to have a revision done but do a different bypass like duodenal switch? Please let me know. THANKS!!!!! Missy

I know this is possible. You may need to find a surgeon that has a good reputation for revisions.

I think there are several people here that have revised from Rny to DS. Hopefully they will be able
to give you some better information.

Good luck with this.

Oh goodness, yes!  Dr. Inman is at St.Vincents in Indianapolis.  I think she does revisions.  It's worth a call.

It is definitely possible, though it's a complex and higher risk operation. There are only a few DS surgeons who do this type of revision and I don't think Dr. Inman does them, but a phone call or email should settle that. Bottom line, you will need to travel, but given your present situation iMHO it's worth the effort. There are risks of the surgery, but there are also significant longterm risks for you to stay at the weight where you are now.

Some of the surgeons who definitely do this type of revision include

Dr. John Rabkin of Pacific Laparoscopy in San Francisco

Dr. Ara Keshishian in Glendale CA (near Los Angeles)

Dr. Buchwald in MN (might be nearest to you)

Dr. Mitchell Roslin in NYC

Dr. Greenbaum in NJ (though he is selective)

And I think I'm forgetting someone but maybe someone else has more suggestions.

Dr. Gagner in Canada also has a great reputation if you want to check him out.

Sorry to butt into this thread but I'm searching for similar information. My original surgeon does not perform RNY 2 DS revisions. I had RNY in 2002 and in the past 2-3 years have regained almost all my weight loss. I live in the South and wondered if anyone knew of an experienced & skilled surgeon for this revision type in my general area of the country. Thanks in advance for your assistance!!
