poopy problems?
I so totally get the Kung fu grip and my body wanting it all but with both vsg and ds most of the stomach is cut away along with most of the hunger hormones which is what I need right now and for me that's what's doing me in. My nutritionist isn't really pushing low fat on me at all She showed me examples of what I should be eating and it's mostly what I eat right now. Of course sweets and empty calories are not on it which also has done me in way too many times but the food choices aren't too bad. She really promotes a protein rich lifestyle I'm not really into steak or burgers, those foods felt like a rock in my stomach so I really won't miss them, same for bread, rice etc. she really is into me having foods that would stay in there for awhile which is protein and I'm cool with that. Thanks for all the info you have been very helpful. Thanks
Yes for a short time the hunger goes away, and then it comes back with a kick ass vengence. Also, please do not take this the wrong way because many of us were SMO, but if have a BMI over 50 you are mostly likely not just eating because you are hungry. The DS and VSG do not magically resolve emotional eating.
Do yourself a favor, just read through the trends on the boards for the last 2 or 3 years. It's not shocking to see that the VSG board has lots of threads about significant weight regain, people not losing enough, etc.
Get the surgery you want, but at least do it informed.
Smelly gas and diarrhea comes more from processed foods and simple carbs, like pasta, bread, and sweets. A high fat meat gives me no effect at all. I am a corporate trainer, and being 8+ years out, I can assure you that I do not have a life of gas and diarrhea in the workplace. I have one giant poop in the morning and that's it. I eat meat and veggies for lunch (or other things I know won't affect me) and nobody is the least bit offended or aware of my DS existence. I live in another city part of the week from a hotel, and do fine on restaurant food, too. The DS is an easy lifestyle to live!

I can't stress this enough. I researched the duodenal switch for years to find a surgeon who avoided the MicroPouch or other variations on this procedure. I honestly think it should be banned. Find a surgeon who creates a gastric sleeve that keeps the pyloris in place. Keeping the natural mechanics of the stomach as intact as possible is the key to avoiding the worst of dumping syndrome and also increases, in my opinion, the success rate of the permanent weight loss. With the micropouch and similar surgeries there is no sphincter. Over time that little whole they created will widen. You end up with a superhighway straight from your stomach to your intestine. This increases, I believe, the effects of dumping syndrome. It also additionally allows pt.s to eat more since in effect your entire intestine becomes your "stomach" since there is no regulation and preparation of the chyme by the stomach.
