trying to stay positive

SO my surgery this morning had to be postponed because the person ahead of me had too many complications with their surgery. That and my surgeon started not feeling well.

At first I was devastated. I had been in the hospital with an IV in my hand freaking out between nervous and excitement, waiting for this to happen. Then I came to my senses. Why would I want to force someone who is tired from a complicated procedure before me who isn't feeling well, doing the surgery that is going to help me change my life.

With that being said we were able to reschedule for his first spot Thursday morning. Leaving the hospital I was still pretty upset, especially since I  couldn't even talk to my surgeon about it. Later that night I knew I had made the right choice with my surgeon choice.

Not only did he pay for my food for the rest of today and tomorrow, but he personally called my cell phone and left me a message apologizing and explaining what happened. Also, since I was so willing to work with them to reschedule, he wanted me to be his first patient Thursday morning so nothing else could go wrong.

Now that I am completely calm, I am extremely grateful that the hospital team and surgical team (even though I didn't see it at the time) really wanted what was best for me and I couldn't be happier with my choice of not only surgeon and surgery, but the whole team.

added bonus *** I now know exactly where to go to sign in, register, and how stubborn my veins are for the IV. I'm trying my best to stay positive and relaxed. By the end of this week I will be post-op, I might have hit a speed bump, but I didn't hit a dead end.

I just wanted to let you know that I went trough the same exact thing. Although my surgery was rescheduled for the next morning. I'm glad I made the choice to not force my surgeon to do my surgery. I healed great. He stitched my stomach too tight so I have a lot of nausea still at nearly 7 weeks out but I still believe it is worth the trouble. Anyways stay strong and positive and know you will be switched soon. Good luck!!

Thank you. I know it will be soon, it just is slightly frustrating. I am happy I waited though. With your stomach being too tight, besides the nausea do you have any other complications?

No, I don't.  I'm already feeling the effects of losing the weight I have. Like I have way more energy, less back pain, and my mood has improved considerably. I have lost, however my body fluctuates so bad daily. It's hard to meet my goals everyday but i continue to work on it. I have felt great, just terrible nausea is all I struggle with. You will be fine. It is frustrating to have your surgery postponed, my surgery was canceled in Dec for insurance reasons and rescheduled for Jan. Then it was canceled that time also for complications with another patient in the O.R. and a tired surgeon. So trust me I have had my fair share of disappointment when trying to get my surgery but I did look at it in the grand scheme of things like; a month or a few days is not that big of a set back to a healthier smaller me for the REST of my life. You will do great.

Yep, you definitely want your surgeon to be well and rested. I love your attitude. You've got this!

Quite the roller coaster ride yesterday! I am happy that your surgeon turned out to be the right choice. I love how he called you to apologize and made sure that you are at the top of his list on Thursday. Hang in there and keep the positive thoughts going!

So sorry this happened, but you have the right attitude and you and your surgeon made a good decision. Best wishes for a safe and successful surgery tomorrow.

Perhaps this will put in perspective for others as both you and your surgeon handled it beautifully.  On a very less scale, I got a perm when my stylist was not feeling well.  Worse.Perm.Ever. in the history of all perms ever given by anyone anywhere.  Thank God, it was only my hair.

I noticed you from Grand Rapids. If you have the same surgeon I had,  you have the best.
