Opinions please - how much solid vs liquid

Hello all,

I had my DS about 3 and a half weeks ago and I have been following the liquid to puréed to soft food diet. I have been drinking protein drinks to ensure that I get my protein in per day. Now that I'm eating some soft proteins, I'm wondering if I should be eating more of the solid foods versus the protein shakes and a bit of solid proteins.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks. :)

A lot of DSrs do very well with a combo approach and never give up protein shakes. I decided to do more shakes than food and have kept great restriction in my sleeve for over 6 years. Protein is good for us regardless of dense or liquid, do what is comfortable for you and keep your protein labs up. Protein serum close to 7, albumin in the 4s and prealbumin near the top of the range. It takes a minimum of 120 grams of protein from shakes to keep my labs up...I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.  ;)

Your body needs at least 100g of protein and at least 64oz of liquids.  How you accomplish both is up to you.

The protein will be tougher than the liquids, which is hard enough.  For protein, many take a phased approach where you work up to 30g the first 30 days, 60g by 60 days, etc...

Great idea. I think that I need to stretch it out slower, but that is a great idea.

Thanks.

I use the combo approach myself. I was never a big breakfast person so I start my ay with a double scoop protein
drink and then fill the rest in with regular food. If I feel I haven't gotten in enough protein for the day (busy, tiny tummy, whatever) I might have a protein shake at night. I'm 10 months out and can't remember the last time I had to do that.

I never did the 30-60-90 thing.  I always got in at least 90 grams of protein from day one by drinking my protein.  Whey isolate is the most bioavailable form of protein.  Animal proteins are best for DSers.  Make sure your protein lab readings are good.  If they dip, up your shakes.

There's no shame in drinking shakes.  High protein = less risk of hair loss.  I never lost any hair, I like to think it's from my high protein intake.  I start every day with a double scoop in my coffee and end the day the same way.

Protein shakes are best absorbed first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
