Channel Length Meaning/Loop DS
There was some info on the SADI/Loop DS in Bariatric Times digital edition near the back. You can read about it here: http://bariatrictimes.epubxp.com/i/130204/20
I've been on this and other bariatric boards since 1999 or so. I've seen fads come and go, and I've participated in a few, like the Lap Band. :) (There was good 5-7 year data back then out of Europe.) I remember the Mini Gastric Bypass. I remember the VBGs, the meshs, the various ways people have tried to change surgeries. What hasn't changed in that time is that consistently people have the best maintained weight loss with the DS. I've seen so many revisions...and I've had one and need another...in that time from pretty much everybody but DSers. (I've seen a few DS revisions, but not many...like one hand's worth.)
I think there are probably some very good reasons to do the SADI procedure on certain people. It reminds me of the MGB because of the loop. But, if I wanted to be sure that I was having the procedure that made it the least likely I would need a revision or future surgery, I'd choose the standard DS. Some surgeons do slightly longer CCs, with smaller stomachs. Others do not. So, if you're more comfortable with that, then choose one of those surgeons. But honestly...I'd stick to the tried and true.
Lap-Band June 14, 2001. Dr. Rumbaut, Monterrey, Mexico.
Lap-Band removed after 7 years and converted to Sleeve Gastrectomy on July 7, 2008 by Dr. Roslin. I've had three happy healthy Lap-Band babies.... and one VSG baby. 5 years out from revision to VSG. Gained 55 pounds in past 5 months, now considering DS. :(
I am 10 months out on my Full DS and down 201lbs. My common channel is 7-8 inches long. I did alot of research before I choose what surgery to have. My employer would pay for any type I choose. I noticed we had over a dozen RNY employees that had gaine alot of weight back. We had 2 DS employees that lost all the weight and kept it off for over 2+ years. Its true you need to take more vitamins after a DS than RNY. Ask yourself this is taking more vitamins worse than constantly struggling with weight gain? For me it wasn't. I would recommend the Full DS to anybody considering Bariatric Surgery. Good Luck.
A 100 cm channel is 39 inches long. 50 cm would be half of that. Are you sure? Any who, yes that's the question that it really comes down too. I'm going to discuss with the surgeon about what he thinks will suit me as I don't need to lose as much but still enough to want help and keep most of it off
You have got to be joking. My dear, how do you eat?
Mine is 300cm. You must mean 70-80cm long.
That would cause too much malabsorption of vitamins.

You need to re-read your operative report. 8 inches would be 20 cm. This is not enough to support life. I have heard of a couple of people getting common channels this short, but they were soon very ill and had to be revised. They are also suing the surgeon who did this to them.
I sure hope you meant 70-80...not 7-8. Its scarey that you would put something like this out there for newbies.
