I will not lie it was painful but it IS bearable. Just make sure they give you Tordal and Reglan in  your IV after rather than morphine. It will take the swelling down and help with nausea. It will totally make you feel better. Everyone handles it differently. Those two drugs I have seen posted about on here over and over. They make a world of difference the first couple of days after surgery that you are in the hospital.

It is all worth it!!

Thank you for the IV suggestions. There are so many things I wouldn't even have thought about if not for this forum :).

People's experiences are so different! My DS was done lap/hand assisted, so I had 1 hand-sized incision and a few little ones. I had very little pain. My biggest problem was exhaustion. The benefits are so great that it was well worth it.

Since you are alredy missing part of a lung, it will be even more important for you than for many others to build up your lungs as best you can now. Try doing deep breathing exercises, blowing up ballooons, that sort of thing. After your surgery, you will be given a spirometer and encouraged (probably more like ordered) to take deep breaths every hour or so. the more you do now, the easier it will be after your surgery.

Hi Laura,

I hadn't even thought of complications I might have because of my missing lobe of lung.  Thank you for the advice, I really appreciate it!
