carb counters - count net carbs or total carbs?

I am 2 years DS post-op and I really want to lose my final 20 pounds.  I see posts talking about 50 grams carbs, but that seems to be referring to net carbs and not true carb counts.   If I am just tracking normal carbs, what would the max amount that I should shoot for in a day?  I understand that I should keep it to a minimum.  I can't find any place that talks about a rule of thumb on how to eat after DS.  I would like to refresh myself after 2 years post op.

Thanks in advance,

No regrets with my DS!!!

It's up to you whether you count net carbs or regular carbs--your body--YMMV.

I have to stay under 50 net carbs to start losing. I'm, over 6 years post-op. If I stop the Greek yogurt and blueberries, and use heavy whipping cream instead of 1/2 & 1/2, I can stay well under 50 regular carbs a day for a couple of weeks. The dairy really adds up quickly in the carb department. It's also a good idea to exercise a little bit often. That seems to boost my metabolism a bit. So, I'll walk about 10-15 minutes every hour.

Thank you.  I hear of people using Heavy Cream.  What is the benefit of heavy cream? Is it because of the higher fat content and lower carb?  Any concerns about the higher calorie content?  Do you use it as a milk replacement (like on cereal)?    Is there a good place to find these tips and tricks in one place?

Heavy cream for more fat and less carbs. I don't worry about calories.  I don't eat cereal either.  For protein coffee with heavy cream I use 2 oz of cream and 2 oz of water, add a scoop of protein powder, and extra Truvia or Splenda--shake--pour coffee over top and stir or tilt the blender bottle gently. Very low carbs. No tips or tricks all in one place since everyone finds their own way. No rules to follow either.

I am early out so I try to keep my carbs really in check. I do 10-15 carbs if I subtract the fiber and 25-30 if I count all of them. Good luck! I bet being in the home stretch feels amazing!!!
