Newbie with problems - Leak and Stricture

Switched on 11/01. It was a revision from gastroplasty I had done in 2003. Started feeling really sick on 11/07. I ended up going to the ER. I had an abscess and a small leak. Because I traveled for my surgery, I was at the mercy of the bariatric surgeons that served our local hospital. They have taken good care of me. I had emergency surgery on 11/07. Obviously, he resolved the abscess and the leak has been repaired. However, now I have a feeding tube and a t-tube. Something happened after the original surgery to cause me to have strictures in my sleeve. Dr. says that it could be post-surgical swelling or it could be something more that would require dilation via endoscopy or even additional surgery. Because of the strictures, I can't have anything by mouth. Everything has to go through my feeding tube.

So. . .do I regret this? I totally do. My life is completely upside down. I was released from the hospital on 11/12 and husband has been doing his best to take care of the kids. I am practically feeding myself during all my waking hours (every 2 hours). I was active and happy before and I feel so hopeless right now.

Does anyone have any advice or encouragement?

I keep reading these horrible stories online of people who have to have feeding tubes for their entire life. . .I don't want that for myself.

I'm so sorry you're going through this.  I hope when you're recovered from this and start losing  weight and feeling healthy again you won't  have anymore regrets.  Wishing you a full recovery.

Don't give up. Your still early days after the surgery.  I've seen postings from people that needed a feeding tube after surgery due to complications but no one that didn't eventually get off the feeding tube. I hope the healing or the dilation via endoscopy will relieve the problem. It sounds like the Doc has a plan and that is a good thing.

You can get through this. Take each step one day at a time.

Sending you best wishes and prayers that this all heals up for you.

Pete

So sorry to hear what you're going through. Hopefully the day will come round soon when you'll look back on this and say it was worth it. BTW who did your revision?

I feel your pain. This surgery has been a nightmare from hell for me. I have to have an EDG And maybe another surgery.  Ive had a feeding tube since day 1 . 2 blood transfusions I feel like **** All the time. My saving grace is i keep saying most people feel decent in 6 weeks I'm 3 weeks 2 days from feeling better.  My surgery was Oct 30. Give it the 6 weeks to decide if you still hate it!
