DS on Aug 9, 2007 with Dr. Hazem Elariny
I started on a modified Vitalady plan and most of my labs were okay at 3 months out. The ones that I needed to increase are (lo and behold!) the ones I didn't get from Vitalady's plan. So now I have purchased everything in order to get all that I need. This is the commitment I made to myself before having this surgery.
I take 17 different pills a day (a total of about 36 pills -- 8 of those are calcium and 5 of those are iron). I know it's a lot, but your health is important!
I buy some from Vitalady and most from Amazon. I have calculated my costs to be about $1,300 per year, so a little over $100 per month.
I'm not sure what the RNY requirements are, but her plan is a good one to follow.
This is what I'm taking:
Vitamin A 25,000IU - 4 per day |
Tender Iron 60mg w/400mg Vitamin C - 5 per day |
Vitamin E 400IU - 2 per day |
Copper, CU-5, 5mg |
Calcium 630 mg (Citracal) - 8 per day |
Multi Vitamin - 2 per day |
Vitamin D3 50,000IU |
Zinc Gluconate 50mg - 2 per day |
Vitamin B-12 5,000mcg - one every other day |
B Complex 55 |
Magnesium Citrate 250mg, *serving size is 2 tablets |
Vitamin C 2,000mg |
Vitamin K-1 1,000mcg |
Vitamin K-2, 500mcg (MK-4) - 2 per day |
B-1 100mg |
B-9 Folic Acid 1,200mcg |
Biotin, 5,000 |

I pretty much did what amylucha did, except I ordered her DS schedule for immediately post op, then searched for sources of the same vites on Amazon, and eBay. I also use a mail order house, Lucky Vitamin, for others.
Here's my list. It might look skimpy compared to others, but it works well for me. Everybody's different, even with the DS, and you have to tweak and find out what works best for you!

Wow, 20 years! Congrats! I am about to undergo the DS and would love to hear your opinion of the surgery and any advice you could offer someone who is about to have it done-ie vitamins regimen, protein, etc. Are you happy with your results and, if you don't mind my asking, how is your health 20 years out. It's not often we come across someone who is out that far. Has the vitalday regimen kept you without deficiencies? Would love to hear from you if you are wiling to share so I can learn.
I use the vitalady list of what to take. Some I buy from her, like tender iron and Proferrin ES. The rest I buy on line at various places like Lucky Vitamin, Vitacost, Amazon, and Bio Tech labs . I buy what I can from Costco also.
I take a ton of pills, and will probably end up taking even more after my labs in January. It's part of the trade off I made to lose the weight without effort, get rid of my diabetes, and be able to eat pretty much anything I want (although I don't).
You don't have to buy all your vitamins from the Vitalady, but I would suggest you buy ADEK from her. You need dry vitamin A, D, E, and K. Until you know what to buy, just buy them from her and start shopping for the rest of them.
You're complaining about 20 vites a day? Did you not research what you would need to take FOR LIFE after this surgery? I take somewhere around 30 per day. It is a part of my life. That being said, Vitalady can be pricey. I personally only get dry A, dry E and dry K from her. I buy from Amazon as well. Here is what I take:
(3) Multi
(3) dry A 25000 unit capsules
(2) dry K1 1000 unit capsules
(1) dry E 400 unit capsule
(2) dry D3 50000 unit capsules
(1) 2500mg sublingual B12
(1) dry K2
(4) Calcium http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001IKCE5K/ref=ox_sc_act_ti tle_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A19NVE4G6SOT2C
(1) Docusate Sodium
(1) proferin forte
(3) replenex (glucosamine sup)
(2) cellwise (anitoxidant)
(1) florify (probiotic)
(2) provex plus (heart health)
(2) phytomega (heart health)
1 tbs omega 3
(1) 10 MeQ potassium
When did you have labs done last? How are your numbers? That will really tell you where to start. A good multi, Dry A, Dry D3, Dry E, Dry K1 and Calcium Citrate is a basic start.
