Or is it something else??

I don't know whether to call my surgeon or what, I started taking in more protein then only back off a little from constant protein, and I may have missed a meal or two here or there and BAM! Swollen again. I'm more active recently, yet I haven't lost a pound in well over a month. I'm so discouraged I've been eating more and more carbs cause I feel horrible and fat. I swear I'm failing for the third time. (I'm a third time loser 250 lbs. on my own, then regain then RNY , then regain and DS). (revision from RNY to DS November 2012) help! I have 35 more pounds to my goal, I'll never get there I know it.

Oh, dear. Are you trying to get all your protein in with food or a combo with shakes?

A combination. I'll have one to two protein shakes in the a.m. before 12 noon. Then I start meals eating protein first. I have added melba ultra thin rye back to my diet. And... Bad carbs like ice cream and chocolate here and there. I just started running over the last month and a half also. I figured the extra carbs would help with energy.

Try to get a handle on those carbs. I'm trying to avoid them until I reach maintenance. If you can't cut them out completely, try limiting them to about 50-100 grams per day at the most. The carbs might have something to do with your stall.

You can do this -- you are so close to goal. You WILL get there, as long as you use your tool. Get back to basics. Protein, vitamins, water. Good luck.

I am trying but it's weird I crave savory fatty foods before surgery and I'd gain from it. Now after surgery I only crave sweets ...cookies, ice cream, chocolate... It's like I crave what I can't or shouldnt have. What's worse is I really only have minimal discomfort after eating them. I'm 11 months out. I see other people saying how they can't eat this or that... I can eat like anything.

Thanks for the encouragement Amy, I'm trying to keep positive.

I understand your struggles..... I am/have experienced the same things. I get times where my legs and ankles swell up but then seem to disapear as fast as it came so probably not the same to the degree it sounds like you have.

I am a carb junkie by nature and struggle daily with keeping my intake to a manageable limit. Its so HARD!!!!

I try to supplement my food protein intake with either a double scoop protien shake/shot first thing in the morning or 2 single scoop shakes throughout the day. What I do is use about 2 oz of half and half, shake my protien powered in it (I use Champion pure stack whey because it mixes so well without lumps or getting thick) and then I drink it down pretty quick. I do this just becuase it makes it simple and I don't want to drink a whole cup of it.

When was your last vitamin level draws? Were you on target or very low on any vitamins and on what nutrients? There are experts on this board who can help interpret your results and give some guidence based on their experience/knowledge if you want to post them.

I try to keep my carbs to veggies. If I feel like I need "crunchy" chip like stuff I will try to sait the need with pork rinds.... This doesn't always help and I do splurge occasionally. When I do it ALWAYS gets me in trouble. The last thing I try to do is maintain a low carb diet through the week and then if I feel I am deprived I allow some carbs on the weekend so that I am not spending all week splurging on carbs and it doesn't make me feel so deprived. I will admit I am not always successful but I never give up trying.... I think this "carb" addition is probably going to be my nemisis for life. I just need to find methods of managing it....

Good luck to you. I hope you find your solutions...

Track everything and if I were you, I wouldn't go over 20 g carbs per day. For me, anything more than 30 g, I maintain my current weight, but 20 or below and the scales slowly slips down. I'm further out than you, but truly, cut back on those carbs and up the protein. Running is great, but I'm sure your body is using those carbs as easy fuel first, and not your fat stores.
