DS Recovery and teaching
I teach 7th and 8th grade engineering and science courses. I was in the hospital for 6 days, and went back to work after a week and a half after the surgery. I've done ok so far - just when I get a tad dizzy I just take a seat and continue with the lesson - the kids are pretty understanding (plus I can talk about how robotics was used in my surgery) :-). Three weeks for you should be plenty of time (I'm about 3 weeks out now). I think if I was home for 3 weeks I would have gone crazy lol
Do you have a teachers aide or an assistant? The hardest part is not being able to life over 10 lbs for about 6 weeks.
Wish you all the best!!
At the time of my surgery I was finishing my Degree and I went back 5 days after my surgery. I was able to drive, walk and take exams with just minor discomfort. If you can sit most of the day you should be fine. I am sure that your supervisors will understand that you just had major surgery. Get a doctors not that says that you need to teach sitting down for a few weeks (or as long as you need). Give it to your head of department and they have no right to tell you anything. Explain to the kids that you aren't 100% yet and that you will need to take it slow. I am not sure what grade you teach. I teach MS/ HS and they are usually very understanding.

My surgery was uneventful and I have had no complications thus far. I took naps daily until school started and had nausea for the first 5weeks.
See how you feel, but I really doubt 3weeks is enough...especially in kinder!!!
Good luck!!! I love my DS (down 82lbs already)
If you can't be back in 3 weeks you have Fmla. Plus teachers here in AZ decide how they want to be paid ie: get bigger checks during the actual school year and no pay in summer. Kindergarten children get hurt fall and you have to get them up. You have constant physical contact. I would take the time needed to heal instead of having to suffer for it later, maybe....
