Plication is a form of sleeve, whereby the stomach is folded in on itself and stitched rather than being cut away.  Plications are for the most part less successful than the VSG, although there are exceptions to everything.

I got the lap band & plication in January of 2011. I was converted to the DS in August of 2012. It wasn't a complete conversion. Because my stomach was already smaller from the plication and I still had restriction from the lap band, they left the stomach alone and just worked on my intestines and bowels. Plication is similar to the sleeve and my surgeon wanted to do the sleeve. However, my insurance would not cover VSG. As I'm sure everyone here knows, insurance can be a huge pain to deal with when it comes to getting approved for WLS.

I'm surprised your insurance covered the plication. I thought they still classed it as experimental.

The insurance did not cover the plication because it was considered experimental. They did cover everything else.

I don't even know what to say.  When I was reading your post I was so sad and amazed at all you had gone thru.  I'm having a personal family crisis right now and feeling sorry for myself.  Your post woke me up that I do NOT have the worst life ever!  What a strong person you are to endure all of that.  THEN I read that your pre-op weight was almost 600 lbs which has to be near impossible to function at.  THEN to see your physical transformation and read about how different your life is now is just so amazing to me.  I've been on this board for years and your story is in my top 3.

You look beautiful and I'm so inspired by you.  I wish you all of the best and that you can make up for any lost time.  Congratulations on your success!!!!!  WOW!!!!!!!!!

Cheers,

Cathy

Thank you so much. Your post gave me goose bumps and made me tear up. My life has had many changes and struggles since I started this whole process. Even with all the problems and complications my physical health and activity are a million times better than they were three years ago.

However, my personal life is a total train wreck. In the midst of struggling with all of my health issues I am also been going through a bitter, nasty divorce & custody dispute. Because of the divorce I have lost my home, my car, my money, everything. But this weight loss journey has made me a much stronger person. Had I been going through all this before I would have given up long ago. Now, after what I've been through, I know I can make it through.

I wish you the best of luck with your family crisis. Stay strong.

Thank you guys so much. Your support keeps me going. Once again I am having issues retaining fluid. I've gained 28 pounds in 10 days. 10 pounds of that was in less than 24 hours. I'm sure it's due to low albumin protein levels again. That's what caused it last time. I am taking Lasix 40 mg two times a day but it's not helping. I have been working so hard to eat more protein and take my vitamins daily. I am headed to the doctor to get blood work done shortly.
