Advice from DSers!

She can have full fat everything.  What you don't absorb can't hurt you!  Most of us have low cholesterol.

I think the ideas here are all great. Do you have any idea, after 2 years, what her average meal size is? At 6 months out my stomach is still tiny enough that if I am concentrating on liquids and protein I really don't have much room for anything else besides a couple of crackers with cream cheese. That might make a difference in how you meal plan.

I just got my 6 month labs and cholesterol is the lowest ever.

Hydration, protein, fat, and vitamins. Sometimes just going back to basics can help you get back on track.

She has done great. It is hard to keep up the momentum. Having a friend to help will be good.

Here are a list of fats that I had to post on my frig to help me.

I feel that the 'bad fats' are only bad if you consume them with carbs.  I do eat a lot of butter, cheese, cream - dairy fats.  And it's always at full fat levels.   My cholesterol has never been lower.

Eating full fat foods makes me feel full, and I eat a lot less.  Fats are what trigger  our satiation hormones to kick in, telling us we have had enough to eat.  Fortunately, we only absorb 20% of all this fat but still get the 'full feeling' from it.

I don't eat any trans-fat foods that mix carbs with oil - except I do eat fried foods but try to eliminate breading on it.  Otherwise, I stay away from the trans-fat list of donuts and cookies with high oil/carb ratios.

And as another poster said, going back to basics really helps the program.  Doing protein, salads, and vitamins first, and eliminating carbs for just 2 weeks will make a world of difference.  The energy goes up, dark moods or depressions lift, foggy mind clears up, and the body starts performing much better and we feel better.  After 2 weeks of low carbing, we lose the craving for crap foods.

Where on earth did you get that list on BAD FATS? That list is all wrong.
With the DS high fat meats are good..........................

Chicken skin is not bad for you....................................

Whole-fat dairy products...........That is what we supposed to use

Butter, Cheese, Also palm and coconut oil has been proven to be extremely health for everybody.

This list is so outdated it's not even funny.

What Herman said ^^^^

While I agree with most trans fats being bad for us...saturated fats are the beauty of the DS. I LOVE crispy chicken skin baked with butter!

Mil**** cream are ONLY an issue if you are lactose intolerant. I can not drink reg whole milk so I use half & half in it's place for cooking, etc. And ice cream was fine for a long time, now it's on my personal "no way" list but not because of the fat...because of the whey/casein.

Lard is typically bacon fat and is FANTASTIC to cook green beans, etc in like a good Southerner should...

Remember, you only absorb about 20% of those fats...

I got the DS to get rid of the diet mentality...

Here is what I received from my nutritionist prior to my DS surgery that I just had.

Just copy & paste the link. I tried linking but kept getting errors!

I fixed my post of fats to eat.  And put in bold my point that no fats are bad unless you eat them with carbs.  Hope this clarifies my intent to help.  Eat all those fats listed - it helps in a lot of different ways.

Thanks for the help everyone! I'm the friend she was referring to! Getting back on the wagon by tracking my food and with help from my friend!

Does anyone know how much fiber we're supposed to get? I got nearly 160 grams of protein today and way fewer carbs than I've been eating recently and found myself hungry pretty much all day. Suggestions??

fibre is irrelevant to us DSers.  If you need more filling, you can eat veggies which have complex carbs (not simple carbs), once you are sure you will reach your daily protein goals.

spreadh your food out, so that you are eating every 2 hours.  Have high protein snacks at hand all the time - nuts, beef jerky, deli meat, cheese...

also take a look at your hydration levels. Drinking more water can help with satiation and the feeling of being "full"
