Tired of being sick

I am 10 weeks out and have been getting sick (throwing up) 1-2 times a week.  I am still having trouble getting in my protein and can only eat maybe 1/2 cup if I am lucky 2 times a day.  Any ideas on this would be nice my family is telling me to call the doctor so if it is not better by next week I guess I will have to call.

(I'm assuming you had the DS since you're posting on this board.)

I would call your doctor right away. I don't think it's normal to be vomiting 1-2 times per week. I am also a little over 10 weeks out, and I haven't vomited once since the day after surgery. And now I'm able to eat about 3 ounces of food at each sitting (about 4-5 times per day).

Call your doctor now -- don't wait. In the meantime, since you can't eat much, I would stick to protein drinks to make sure you're getting enough protein.

Good luck. :)

If you're able to, try warm herbal tea with a squeeze of lemon. It could be dehydration, but I agree, call the doc on Monday. Feel better. :(

Sorry to hear you are having problems and hope it gets resolved soon.  What kind of foods are you eating?  Perhaps posting them would help people who have experienced the same give more feedback about what they did to resolve it.   Your new stomach is still very tender and will take some time to heal completely.  I know when I was about 8 weeks out from my DS revision I took one bite of beef that was a bit tough and it sent me to the bath room vomiting.  I still could handle only soft or semi soft food at this point.

I agree about calling your doctor as soon as you can on Monday.  Hopefully it will only be something as simple as changing up your  diet or getting in more hydration.

Good luck and please come back and let us know how you are doing.

Agreed.  You shouldn't be vomiting at all.  What and how much are you eating?  10 weeks is a rough time....you want to be all better and "normal", and quite frankly, you're not.  Yet.  And, yes, call the doctor.

I was like that the first 6 weeks.  I would vomit on any fats in my food.  Certain types of food would make me sick to my stomach and make it cramp and hurt for a couple of hours.

I never called my doctor, but I probably should have.  I just stayed on my protein drinks, which kept me hydrated and didn't over stretch my stomach like food did.  And I was very careful what I ate for a long time.  Certain vitamins made me vomit also.

I have never been one to vomit but I have found since having this surgery that if I take one bite too much or drink liquids with my meals my food will come back up. It isn't that I am vomiting -I just can't hold any more and so I lose it.. My stomach is also more sensitive to certain foods. They taste good going down but just don't agree with me. It hasn't hurt me and it gets less and less as my stomach matures.

I would definately ask your doctor and see what he says just to be safe. For me this has been a process of relearning how to eat-

1) how much is too much- we are all different in what we tolerate

2) what will my intestinal track be happy with

3) what will my stomach like (even now a dense protein can be too much and not agree with me- not every day but there are still days when things don't agree with me.

4) making sure I get enough water in since I can no longer drink with my meals.

Lots of things to learn and make adjustments to. Good luck in figuring it out. Hopefully your doctor will be able to give you some good advice. There are wise people on this board with sage advice too.It sounds like you are listening to their council and advice!

Did you have DS?

yes- I had the DS on March 19,2013. I am a revision from an RNY and maybe that's why I have some of the issues I have. DS is a very different feeling from the RNY . I am 7 months out and haven't had any other real issues other than what I mentioned above and they get better every day.
