Common Channel Lengths
Every one of us different and 75cm for some might be too short while too long for others. Mine is 100cm and as a light weight some folks would say it's too short. I dunno, it's a your mileage may vary (YMMV) thing.

A lot of people say there's not that much in it. Mine's 75 which I'm OK with, my calcium's a little low and my PTH is up so I'm working on those (my ferritin's not great either and I am on the Vitalady regime) - maybe I wouldn't have to work so hard on vits with a longer CC but I'd have had to work harder to lose the weight so it's a trade off.
I've certainly wished for a 50cm CC in the past, but I'm kinda happy with what I got... it's too easy to live life thinking the grass is greener elsewhere.

Also it depends how taut the surgeon has your intestine when he measures it, so one surgeon's 75cm could 100cm for another and vice versa.

I am a 150cm CC and had no issues losing all my excess weight. I have no issues maintaining my loss either. I have great labs and put considerable effort towards keeping them there. I take as many supplements as those with much shorter CCs, my longer CC does not really seem to effect my absorption. My Dr. believes that the longer CC helps prevent some of the more negative side-effects of the DS with more absorption (thus needing less supplementation, ideally).
I wouldn't change it. I'm healthy, happy, and believe what I have works for me.

if i had a dollar for every time i have seen this post i would have many dollars....
medically nothing..since they are very close (small intestine is about 24 feet that difference is 9 inches)... the difference is smaller in how they are measured when we are having surgery....
but i think your question is simpler (or extremely complicated if you add in health, age, gender, recovery, intestinal adaptation etc) essentially the shorter the cchannel the more malabsorption, the more weight loss, the more vit/min deficiencies, the longer the opposite...how easy that would be....my surgeon doesn;t perform anything less than 125 cchannel, and that you would have to fight for since he is more of a 150 cchannel... see the ds was attempted to be standardized by Gagner with 100 cm,....but unsuccessful as many drs still use short cchannels...we have all asked that question...it's a balance....
It is so personal. I have a 75cc channel, and I struggle to lose the weight. But I could not lose weight before the surgery - even after starving myself, and fasting. I am very metabolically challenged - so I came into this surgery with that strike against me.
You just never know how your body will react to the common channel length. Some people cruz to goal weight with no effort, others struggle .
If you can't lose weight, even if you are going through extreme measures; if your family tends towards MO; if you are a woman; if you are over 50 yrs old; if you are apple shaped; if you have yo-yo dieted for years; if you have low carbed for years - you might benefit from a shorter common channel.
