I made sure to have protein shakes and all my vitamins ready for me when I got home from the hospital. I also had some soft foods ready just in case I moved on to that stage before I felt like going to the grocery store.

Congrats and good luck with your surgery!!

A note about the protein - your tastes may change post op.  Plus, it seems fairly common that many of us were not able to do milk based protein supplements immediately post op (for me, that was years because I did not like the taste!).  I would suggest having some smaller size individual sample packets on hand so you can see what works for you.  Syntrax Nectars have some that are juice-like and mixed with water, not milk.  You can pick up 23 gram individual packets at Vitamin Shoppe or similar locations.  Vitalady also has sample packets.   I also had some protein supplements  that were not completely whey (some people will not do soy, but the liquid soy never bothered me).  Diet Health and Sports has a chicken boullion protein that I liked immediately post op. Warm drinks were soothing immediately post op, for me.

Good luck!  Hope all goes really well for you.

Almost forgot...have you gotten your vitamins?  It is good to have them ready.

I concur about the taste change.  Don't buy a whole lot of anything, or it could be wasted money.  Get some sample packs, 4-packs, etc. and see what "doesn't suck".   I seemed to tolerate the pre-prepared protein drinks better than powders too.  Get a giant 64oz water jug so you can see your daily goal in front of you and keep working on it all day.  It's a full-time job, believe me.  Also - don't forget your vitamins - you can be taking those as soon as you're home.
