Morning Gina,

I had a vites question and several people thought you might help. wink

I was reading about vitamin absorption and wondered about taking vites with food. I see some work better
away from everything but should some be taken with food, ie not to just settle the stomach but a real meal. I
especially wonder about the fat soluble ADEK. Does some fat in the stomach help the process or is it counter
productive - like taking the the non-dry forms?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

All vits in so far today. After some foot trouble I begin the exercise bike again today.

Pete

I've talked to my dietitian about this a bit. It goes against her training but she thinks DSrs absorb A, D, E, K better when they are taken away from oily food. Poor thing she's trying and learning along the way. Anyway, if someone is having trouble absorbing a particular vitamin or mineral, she'll sometimes suggest taking it alone in the middle of the night away from everything else. She will also sometimes suggest taking a particularly troublesome vitamin with a protein shake made with water or juice but not 1/2 & 1/2 or heavy cream.

I think you're spot on thinking in terms of our malabsorption this way. Michelle, Vitalady, calls it her malabsorption filter. Some folks get it, some folks never do. I think you got it.

Still amazed by my zinc.  It took about a week for my skin to worsen from when I cut back to 150mg - I'm back to 200mg and hope it kicks in FAST!!!  I think it must've been a lab error an error on the first set (plus my vit D and ferritin halved at only a month apart!!).  Oh well I'll just keep doing what I can. ;-)

I hope your support group is fun!! :-D
