Raw Coconut Oil Fast

Thank you so much for your recommendation of B2!  I read up on the symptoms of a B2 deficiency and I think it fits.  I had this spot in the corner of my lips that felt chapped and wasn't going away in just a day or two and that was a common symptom listed for a B2 deficiency.  I'm not sure I would have been able to identify B2 as the deficiency any time soon.  I was focused on B12 but honestly didn't understand how I could be that deficient in it since I take a good B12 supplement.  Thanks again!  :-)

DAY TWO:  Well, this is day two of my coconut oil fat fast and while things haven't wholey gone as planned, I am pleased none the less.  The scale has dropped something like 3.6 lbs.  BUT!  I didn't weigh myself until up in the day yesterday and I'd already eaten some very non-diet foods.  lol  I finished off one and a half pieces of pizza and ate half a chocolate orange.  I also had a cup of sugar and milk coffee.  But, very soon after, I had a protein coffee and started eating my coconut butter.  I felt an immediate mental clarity kick in when I ate the coconut butter and at the time was unsure if it was the protein coffee (which I had not had in several months) or if it was the coconut butter.  But, as the day wore on and I continued to eat the coconut butter without anything else, it became clear to me that the effect was from the coconut butter!  I ate about 5 oz yesterday (approx. 1/3 of the jar).

And there's another catch.  I had planned to do this fat fast using raw coconut oil.  What I soon realized I had was raw coconut Butter made from the whole coconut.  For two tablespoons, it has 18 grams of fat, 7 grams of carbs (5 grams of which are fiber with 1.9 grams of it as sugar), and 2 grams of protein.  I do have some raw coconut oil available but I am enjoying the coconut Butter (brand: Artisana) so much and feel so good eating it, that I'm sticking with it for now.

And, as I mentioned, the scale has dropped 3.6 lbs.  That is not the same thing as saying I've lost 3.6 lbs of calorie laden fat!  I suspect that most of that poundage can be attributed to bathroom moments in terms of fluids or otherwise.

So, to recap and expand, I had off-plan yummies yesterday morning plus a protein coffee and then had another protein coffee later on in the day.  My protein for the day probably feel between 70-80 grams.  That is lower than what I would normally do but is also much higher than I had originally planned to do during my fat fast.

This morning, I am off plan again with another protein coffee but I feel it is a positive plan adjustment.  It has close to 40 grams of protein in it.  It is mostly egg white protein with about a quarter cup of whole milk.

How I'm feeling -- I feel pretty good!  And in terms of body, I feel less bloated.  Mentally I feel pretty clear headed and alert.  My energy is decent, keeping in mind that I have rarely ever been a high energy person.  So, my energy is that I don't feel wiped out but I also don't feel compelled to go on some big hike.  As for the candida, I have a light coating of pale candida on my tongue this morning but I do think it is an improvement over yesterday.  The improvement is subtle and I know that I certainly partook in a lot of carbs yesterday morning and there's no reason to expect a full turn around in one partial day of doing low carb with coconut oil (which turned out to be coconut butter with its own sugars).  But, despite my fumbling efforts towards improvement, I feel that there has been improvement.

My plans for today -- get in more water.  I have been shorting myself on water for months now.  Today, I am measuring out my water to be sure that I get in the minimum of 8 - 8 oz cups.  I might do another protein coffee later in the day.  And for the rest, I will eat my yummy coconut butter.

DAY THREE:  Well, I stopped the fat fast yesterday.  I stayed on the fat fast approximately 24 hours connected over two days (mid day to one day to mid day of the next day) and supplemented with protein coffees.  Yesterday actually went pretty well in terms of keeping things low carb after I stopped doing mostly just the coconut butter.  And, my tongue looked as good as it had in awhile when I went to bed, almost no candida on it.  Just a clean pink tongue.  But, when I got up this morning, the candida had bounced back and had bounced back hard!  My tongue was covered pretty heavy in a white candida film.  I'm pretty disappointed in this because as I said, I did a good job of keeping things low carb yesterday following stopping relying on the coconut butter.  I do have some raw coconut Oil and I might start adding that to my diet.  But, I think I will also continue to eat the coconut Butter.  I suspect it will make staying on a low carb diet much easier.  My body seems to have a really nice response to it in terms of craving control.

This morning, I'm going to fix myself some fried rice so I'll be breaking the low carb aspect of my diet pretty thoroughly.  Even though the coconut butter gave me some diarrhea, I believe it was having to work it's way past some constipation.  I want to do a good fiber/fat meal to get myself moving well and then I'll focus on low carb for the rest of the day.   And, I've just finished a protein coffee (low carb with maybe only a quarter cup of milk).

My struggle keeping it low carb will be an ongoing process and my fight against candida will be a who's-won-this-battle experience, I think.  I did a good job for a couple of days against the candida but it did a surprising bounce back that I didn't see coming.  I will continue to strive for low carb for wt loss and to continue to starve the candida out.  And, I will probably pick up a good probiotic soon.  I've drank some high carb probiotic drinks in the last few weeks but I will probably switch to a probiotic tablet or pill to stay away from the sugars.

I probably experience some wt loss from this experience, but not a lot.  Maybe a lb or two, but what is a person to expect from only a couple of days effort!  lol  ... I do feel less bloated.  I do feel better overall.  And, I feel better armed with information and feel good about having taken steps, physical steps and action, to addressing my carb, wt, and candida issues.  Onward from here!   Thank you to anyone who has read all of this.  :)   I do hope you have found some helpful piece of information that helps you with your journey.  Be well!

Is there anywhere online where more information about the best ways to go about successfully starting and completing a raw coconut oil fast is available? And perhaps more information about it's potential benefits?

Honestly, I just googled it and looked at a variety of anecdotal descriptions of people's experiences.  Even if they talk from a place that sounds like they're educated on the topic, it's hard to find any serious research on it.  So, I did it with the intent of just paying attention to how I was doing on it, how I was feeling, etc.  And, at the last moment, I adjusted and added in a protein coffee.  That helped to curb hunger while maintaining nutritional needs.  And, my blood sugar tends to run a little on the low side, I think, so I wanted to provide food support for stable blood sugar.  But, mostly I just whoosed on going full out coconut oil and nothing else.  I've read about others doing coconut oil for 5 days supplementing it with water and lemon juice to aid in the cleansing.  I also caught a snippet of where someone was doing coffee.  I did coffee because I didn't want to go through caffiene withdrawal, especially since I had no plans to stay off of caffeine.  The experience was educational for me, did help me to let go of some water weight (maybe just a little bit of fat???), and I learned something that I hope will continue to be very helpful.

What I learned, by accident, was that Coconut BUTTER (I used Artisana) rocks.  It's wonderful.  It seems to have a very stabilizing effect for me and my cravings and my need to eat.   I think it provides stabilization for my blood sugar, staves off hunger, and helps to control my desire for sweets.  I'm going to use it to aid in maintaining a low carb diet.  The breakdown for it is close to an avocado.  It has 18 grams of fat per two tablespoons, 7 g of carbs (5 of which is fiber), and 2 grams of protein.  Avocados are great for low carb diets but they can be hard to eat before they go bad and I tend to get tired of them easily.  The coconut butter won't be hard to keep up with since it's not going to spoil at the drop of a hat.

Anyway, let me know if you try a coconut fat fast and how it goes for you.  Doing it has helped me get myself back on a low carb path.  Good luck to you!
