Thanks Jimbo, that absolutely helps.  I took some time to read through the thread and appreciate you sharing your journey and insight you've gained along the way.  I'm so very impressed that you did it and maintained it through VSG.  I've chosen the DS after insurance troubles (initially chose the RNY but surprisingly insurance fought me and now I'm on the DS path).  After reading your story, it has bolstered my resolve considerably.

Thanks for responding Jimbo.  Follow up question, was your back pain considerable even after 5 mins of standing?  I noticed that you used to use a cane and then it gradually decreased over time as you got more adjusted.  Just trying to set my expectations correctly as not too many people locally I've spoken to have much back pain.  Perhaps it's just folks that were more our size that throws off our center of gravity and puts strain on the back.

most of my pain was in my hips and knees my back was chronic sciatic nerve pain and I could barely stand more than 5-10 min ( needed to shower in two sessions..no BS!) I needed to constantly shift my weight (even while sitting) to get a moments relief!  I now experience very little of that ( except for my bony ass! hurting when sitting at length! lol!)  I only experience pain on occasion when over doing (strain) which is normal I feel!  Good luck with you surgery....hope your health issues resolve as mine have.  BTW....stopped using my cane at 430lbs or so aprox 6 months out my mobility improve vastly after getting to about 400lbs Im sure yours will too!

I had back surgery in 2006. Had my DS in Jan 2011. I have adjacent spine disorder (the ones above my 2006 fusion are headed south now). I will be having back surgery again in Oct. The PA in the surgeon's office tho said that my weight loss kept it from getting bad any faster cause I could have been in there almost 2 years ago for back surgery. Losing weight gave me an extra 2 years.
