Gall bladder removal..For D S ? Big mistake
I and many others had their GB removed along with their DS. No we aren't wearing diapers or incapacitated by diarrhea. It just takes a while for the body to adjust to being replumbed. And yes, it goes away. I did treat mine mostly with immodium. Try LOW fat for a couple days and see if that helps. When what you are doing doesn't work change things. It's not all that uncommon for people to go low fat in the very beginning to avoid diarrhea.
I had my gb removed many years before my DS. If I hadn't, it would have been done with the DS- that's my surgeon's routine. I really don't think that's your problem. If anything, I trend toward constipation.
I hope you get this figured out. You should not be disabled by this, and living in diapers! That's the stuff of nightmares. Good luck to you!
This isn't about your gall bladder. Having a gall bladder wouldn't make any difference once you have the DS, because the bile drains into your BP limb and doens't even come into contact with food until it reaches the common channel. That would be true with or without a gall bladder. Many surgeons routinely remove the gall bladder with both DS and RNY because the incidence of gallstones is high when someone experiences rapid weight loss. We've seen lots of people say they wish their surgeon HAD removed their gall bladders when they had the severe pain of a gall stone attack and had to have another surgery to remove their no longer healthy gall bladder.
To me this sounds more like bacterial overgrowth. Have you tried a course of flagyl? Another possibility might be C diff, which also might respond to flagyl, and for which other treatments are also available if you test positive for C diff and the flagyl doesn't work. But either way, this isn't a gall bladder issue.
And just for the record, bile is made in the liver, and just stored in the gall bladder, which doens't make anything. So you have the same bile you always had, it just trickles down your common bild duct into your duodenum instead of being stashed away in the gall bladder. And since the duodenum is part of the BP limb, it doesn't matter that the old storage place is gone now.

I had my gall bladder our about 3 years before my DS. When I did get it out with "normal" insides... I would have a lot of diarrhea, especially when I ate fatty food. It lasted about a year for me. Not always diarrhea but certain foods set me off.

Most of the vets I see here and in other places either had their gallbladder removed at the time of surgery or WISH they had. Most of us have to eat extra fat in spite of no gall bladder due to constipation.
My guess is you are newly post op and it takes time for all your vitamins to kick in.
Go back to the very basics and get your gut under control with probiotics and if necessary, flagyl (an antibiotic). IF you go the flagyl route, you will need to repopulate your system with good bacteria via probiotics.
Also do an elimination diet to find out WHAT is causing your issue.
I do know that in the first few weeks, I had lots of diarrhea while I was healing. Once on soft foods, that went away.
Oh, and I wish my gall bladder HAD been removed at my DS surgery cause it headed south soon after and I had to have it removed 6 months later. And I eat LOTS of good fats!
NO diarrhea unless I am stupid and eat too many carbs or too MUCH milk based products.
To answer your question, NO it is not common...the gall bladder is more of a pain in the ass if it's left than if it's removed.
