ok so im pretty sure im not gettin enough fat in..i eat cheese, and drink 2 percent milk, i eat 1 percent cottage cheese. i eat yoplait light yogurt..only reason i eat and drink this stuff is cuz to me it tastes good. i eat 1/8 cup of sesame seeds with the c cheese and i eat 1 ounce of a special blend of nuts(high protein) with the yogurt. besides eating a steak(new york strip, sirloin, and flat iron) this is all the fat im getting. should i switch to whole milk, 4% cottage cheese, and regular yogurt? remind me once again where i can get fat or if im actually gettin enough with what i am eating. im 4 and a half months post op and this is pretty much all i eat cuz a lot of stuff still hurts my stomach for some reason. please let me know other foods i can try to tolerate and how to get fat in. ive been told by family members what i eat and drink is all lowfat. HELP would be so appreciated. thanks all!!

I think the question is - why are you feeling like you're not eating enough? Constipation? Other issues? If I don't have any issues I just stick with what I like.

But I do suggest you start eating full fat dairy. It's actually more difficult to find - like yogurt and cottage cheese. The highest fat I can find sometimes is 2% and that seems to keep things moving just fine.

Another option is adding butter to foods. Shrimp scampi has been great. I'm sure some vets will chime in here too.

Eat everything full fat.  Try not to eat low fat items because the manufacturers are just swapping out fat and replacing it with sugar.  If you compare the labels of Light products, or Low Fat products to the regular version, most often the Light and Low Fat versions have more carbs.  For this reason, I look at the labels and choose the one with the lowest carbs.  Not the lowest calories.

I don't look to add fat to my diet unless I'm constipated.  Then I will increase the fat to get me regular, and stay at that level.  I do eat a lot of fatty meat, bacon, ham, and cook in bacon grease.  I rub bacon grease on my chicken and veggies before I bake them.

I love my DS.

2% milk:

Notice that the difference in carbs/protein changed very little...it was JUST the fat content that changed.   IF you are use to 2%, switching is hard now...but do this, use whole milk or half & half in cooking. Or in your coffee. Maybe not drink the whole milk but use it elsewhere.   Use butter instead of cooking spray.   And if you ARE having issues, maybe use fat bombs as a way to add fat (google "fat bomb recipes" and read the link BEFORE opening). We use fat bombs here, I make a chocolate/peanut butter one that tastes very much like fudge.   Liz

Use heavy cream - I add quite a lot to my protein shake along with water.  I get dry flaky skin and constipation if I don't get enough fat.

My favorite fat is avocado. I take lunch meat, a slice of cheese (both from the deli), and roll them up with an avocado wedge, Yummm! I also eat stewed red beans with ham hock. I think I know when I'm not getting enough fat because I don't "see" it when I eliminate waste (hope that wasn't TMI). I've been using coconut milk and oil in my cooking. I can't get with whole milk cause it makes me sick to my stomach after.

If you're not constipated and your skin isn't all dried out, then you're likely fine.

Artificially low fat foods usually pack in extra carbs to make up for the flavor - not to mention chemicals to get the fat out in the first place.  Concentrate on whole foods, instead, and places to indulge in heavy cream and butter (my two favorite fats).  Add a dab of butter to that steak with some garlic.  Go for low carb yogurt instead of light yogurt.  It packs in more protein, too.  Think whole natural foods and let them be your guide.

Dab whipped cream on anything the least bit sweet - even yogurt, and mmmm coffee!
