Corbin,

Is this Thursday support meeting at Lenox or Northern Westchester? I know Pat is on Vacation this week at NWMC so I thought they didn’t have a meeting this week. If the meeting is still on will it still be at 5:00pm?

Thank

Marie

Lenox at 6 pm.  I've never been to the N. Westchester meetings.

I don't take that many vitamins, but I do take quite a few. I'm fortunate in that my surgeon is one of the very few who gives good vitamin advice. Most provide advice that is totally inadequate. Vitalady's advice has helped many people.

Dr. Roslin has a great reputation. You will be in good hands.

Go into your DS knowing that you will supplement for the rest of your life.  F-o-r-e-v-e-r.  Get used to the idea.  Maybe it won't be 32 pills for you.  Maybe it will.  Is it worth it?

I asked myself those questions before my DS, and actually spent a 9-month period of time taking vitamins and eating protein like DSers were taught to at that time.  I have always been glad that I did.

I have never taken 32 pills per day, but then again I have never counted.  I gag taking pills, so take chewable and powder forms when I can.  For what it is worth, I had trouble with pills as a preop, and did talk to my surgeon about that while considering the surgery.  Lots of the vitamins we take are small.  But some are not so small, and I still have trouble with them.  I gag them down anyway though (seriously, literally gag).

Honestly, it becomes so much a part of your life, it is like brushing your teeth or combing your hair.  It is just what you do.  It is not intrusive.  It just is.

Good luck!

Dawna

I take 26 a day, whi*****ludes 12 calcium.  I follow Vitalady's plan minus her B recommendations (which I greatly decreased as a result of my labs).

If I miss a dose, or am sick for a day or two, or go out of town and forget my vitamins, I don't stress about any missed vitamins because I know I am already aiming high on my vitamin needs.  Aim low and miss a few dosages, and I fear the results could be quite detrimental.

My goodness! I want to know how in the heck y'all are choking down all these vitamins AND getting your water in AND getting your protein in AND finding room for a coupla sprigs of broccoli and a green bean or two?

Broccoli and green beans?  Not likely.  We need protein!

Seriously? I thought the whole point of choosing the DS was to be able to eat a little more normally. Do y'all not eat ANYTHING green?  I don't know if I can give up my collard greens, squash, and green beans out of my garden! (all cooked fat-free, of course.)

Well, yes, you can eat anything you want.  But if you want to lose weight, you are going to need to eat protein first, fat and then, if there is any room left, non-carby veggies.  My stomach is 3oz.  I eat all the time to get all of my protein in.  I do eat veggies at 2 1/2 years out, but didn't eat much of any veggies for a long time.

I agree with clpetz on the veggies.  You wont be eating too many veggies after your DS. I just added them to my diet in any amount worth mentioning,  this summer.  I was a year and a half out.  And always with protein.

No cooking fat-free around here either.  You might be low fat immediately after your DS for a while....mostly to add some relief to your bowels.  Later you will NEED, emphasis on NEED, fat to help with constipation issues.  We eat a high protein diet.  Its usually a little lower in fiber, and the large amounts of calcium we supplement with can be constipating.

Its a totally new way of looking at food.  You will have to forget everything you ever read about healthy eating and how to lose weight!
