Anyone suffer from a skin condition called Hidradenitis Suppurativa
If you know what this skin condition is, you know how much pride I am swallowing by posting this. Fortunately, my case isn't as severe as some but it has worsened since surgery. I'm wondering if any other WLS patients suffer from HS. I know it can worsen with weight gain, hormones, skin rubbing, etc. So here are my questions:
1. Have you found that the breakouts increase as your hormones go crazy after WLS?
2. Have you found anything that truly helps decrease the breakouts? Medicines or washes, anything?
3. Did you have more breakouts when you lost weight and had extra skin rubbing?
4. Did you have skin removal? If so, in what area of your body? My issue post-op is my lower stomach, right where it hangs down.
5. Did insurance pay for it due to the HS?
6. Anything else you want to share?
For those of you unfamiliar with this condition, it is a very painful condition that can really impact your life and self-esteem. There is no cure and even dermatologists can't figure out the cause. All tests come back negative for bacteria but it's clearly an infection (red and swollen all around a breakout). The scarring is 10 times worse than surgery scarring. The best answer I've seen since I was diagnosed around 18 years old, is skin removal and grafting. But that's not always a guarantee either. Google it and you will understand. And please share any advice you might have. I'm really hoping lower stomach skin removal might be covered once I'm to an ideal weight.
Thanks for listening!
Unfortunately, I have it, too, but it's very mild. I've had it for years. My breakouts are in my groin and yowee, is it painful! I went to a plastic surgeon years ago, and was scheduled to have the offending areas excised, but he even wouldn't guarantee a cure. It has been very much under control with Cleocin T lotion, which I apply everyday after my shower- prescribed by a dermatologist. Probably a year or 2 since I've had one.
I have it between the top of my legs. I have not had a breakout since my surgery. I have more saggy skin between my legs but they don't rub together like they used to. I still have the black marks and evidence of the tunnels though. I used to have bad breakouts on vacation because my legs would rub together due to the extra walking. I went to Yellowstone earlier this year and did tons of walking but no HS breakouts. Yeah!!!
